In this role, you will support the measurement, calibration, and quality assurance of space-grade components, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of mission-critical hardware that enables the next generation of space exploration.

Job Purpose:

Support the precision measurement, calibration, and quality assurance of space-grade components and systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and contributing to the reliability and performance of mission-critical hardware.

What You Will Do

Measurement & Calibration Support

• Perform dimensional and physical measurements on aerospace components and optics using precision instruments (microscopes, verniers, micrometres, gauges).
• Support the calibration of measurement instruments and maintain calibration traceability to national and international standards.
• Maintain detailed calibration records and ensure compliance with company and industry quality systems.

Data Integrity & Reporting

• Record and analyse measurement data, identify deviations, and report findings to engineering teams.
• Contribute to internal and customer-facing metrology reports.
• Ensure secure data handling aligned with regulatory and company standards.

Equipment Maintenance & Readiness

• Monitor the performance and condition of metrology equipment.
• Ensure tools and instruments are available, maintained, and ready for production and testing operations.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Support audits and inspections by providing measurement data and documentation.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes related to measurement deviations.

Continuous Learning & Collaboration

• Engage in training and development to enhance metrology and measurement expertise.
• Stay informed about advances in measurement technology and space hardware standards.

What You Will Bring

Qualification:

• Higher Certificate (NQF 5) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or Applied Sciences.

Required Experience:

• 0–2 years in a manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or precision engineering environment.
• Experience or exposure to dimensional metrology and quality control.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
• Basic understanding of calibration processes and traceability standards.

Advantageous:

• Diploma in Metrology, Quality Assurance, or a related Engineering field.
• Familiarity with cleanroom environments and contamination control procedures.
• Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) or optical measurement systems.
