Introduction

The Fertilizer Sales Agent is responsible for driving the sale of our full range of fertilizer and soil health products across the designated territory within the Eastern Cape. This role involves proactively identifying and securing new farmer clients, managing existing accounts, providing technical product advice, and achieving demanding sales targets. The agent must possess a deep understanding of local Eastern Cape cropping cycles, soil types, and farming practices (e.g., maize, citrus) to offer tailored, value-based solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Sales and Business Development

  • Achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for the assigned territory.

  • Prospect, qualify, and close sales with new commercial farmers, farming co-operatives, and agricultural wholesalers.

  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans specific to the Eastern Cape's agricultural calendar.

2. Account Management and Customer Service

  • Manage and service existing client accounts, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.

  • Conduct regular farm visits to assess customer needs, monitor product performance, and build strong, long-term relationships based on trust.

  • Resolve customer queries and complaints relating to product delivery, application, or performance promptly and professionally.

3. Technical Consulting and Product Expertise

  • Provide technical advice on optimal fertilizer application rates, timing, and product selection based on soil analysis and specific crop requirements.

  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitor products, and new developments in agricultural science, particularly those relevant to the Eastern Cape.

  • Conduct field demonstrations and presentations to showcase product effectiveness and value.

4. Reporting and Administration

  • Prepare detailed weekly and monthly sales reports outlining performance against budget, market insights, and competitor activities.

  • Manage territory expenses, including travel and accommodation, efficiently and within budget.

  • Ensure all sales contracts and documentation are completed accurately and comply with company policy.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Experience required:

Experience working in an agricultural sales environment.

A good understanding of fertilizer and soil science
