As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and enhancing our network systems to ensure high performance, security, and reliability. This role requires advanced expertise in network equipment, including switches, routers, WiFi access points, and network-connected surveillance devices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot complex issues, implement scalable solutions, and drive network improvements to support business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and deploy advanced network architectures using switches, routers, WiFi access points, network-connected surveillance devices (e.g., IP cameras), and related equipment to meet organisational needs.
  • Perform in-depth routing and switching configurations, including VLANs, OSPF, BGP, STP, and other protocols to optimise traffic flow and redundancy.
  • Manage and secure WiFi networks, including access point deployment, wireless security protocols (e.g., WPA3), and performance tuning for high- density environments.
  • Integrate and maintain network-connected surveillance systems, ensuring seamless connectivity, data encryption, and compliance with security standards.
  • Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and minimise downtime.
  • Conduct regular network audits, security assessments, and upgrades to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, including hardware failures, connectivity problems, performance degradation, WiFi interference, and surveillance device integration challenges.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate new technologies, such as SDN (Software-Defined Networking), cloud-based networking solutions, or IoT- enabled surveillance.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and document network configurations and procedures.
  • Stay updated on emerging networking trends and recommend innovations to improve infrastructure.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience as a Network Engineer, with proven expertise in advanced routing, switching, WiFi access points, and network- connected surveillance devices.
  • In-depth knowledge of network equipment, including Cisco/Extreme switches, legacy routers, firewalls, load balancers, WiFi access points (e.g., Aruba, Ubiquiti), and surveillance systems (e.g., IP cameras from Axis or Hikvision).
  • Proficiency in protocols such as TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, QoS, VPN technologies, wireless standards ax/ac), and video streaming protocols for surveillance.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Xtreme, Observium) and automation scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible, Powershell).
  • Certifications such as CCNP, CWNP (for wireless), or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure during outages.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders and documenting technical information.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with wireless networking, VoIP, data centre environments, or advanced surveillance integrations (e.g., NVR/DVR systems).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms for networking services.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and network hardening techniques, including those specific to IoT and surveillance devices.
  • Linux Operating systems certified a Plus
  • Weekly Standby is one of the job requirements

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Contract length: 6 months

Pay: R60 000,00 - R74 000,00 per month
