We seek to employ a skilled, knowledgeable and resourceful individual.Reporting to the Foreman: Engineering Workshop; the appointee's duties will include, but not be limited to the below and execution of the following tasks:Machining of metal, wood and plastic (the incumbent would need to make products out of metal, wood and plastic)Accurate operation of the milling machine and lathe and other high speed precision machinesMaintenance of lecture seating structures and related work (especially welding seating structures)Welding workManufacturing and repairs of research equipment (general campus, manufacturing & repair requests for specialised design work)Consulting with job requestersDesign of instruments for research purposeEnsure adherence to Health and safety complianceHousekeeping by ensuring that the workshop is clean and orderly at all timesAssumption of all duties and responsibilities in the absence of the section headMinimum RequirementsA recognized relevant trade certificate (Toolmaker or Fitter & Turner)3 years relevent experience, with 2 years supervisory experienceValid driver's license code (with two years driving experience)CompetenciesBasic computer literacy in MS-Word and ExcelTechnical SkillsProficient in the use of Toolmaking tools and equipment.Ability to handle emergency situations with skill and care.Working knowledge of building management systems.Problem-SolvingStrong analytical skills to troubleshoot and solve complex lock and security issues.Customer ServiceExcellent communication skills to explain services and address customer needs.Ability to provide outstanding customer service under pressure.Added Advantage And PreferencesAppropriate supervisory skills at a tertiary institution would be advantageousIn your application, you are encouraged to highlight your strengths and include anything else you deem exceptional and outstanding to be considered by the selection panel.
