Description – Personal Care Cosmetics Mixer

Purpose of the Role

To manufacture high-quality cosmetic and personal care products in accordance with approved formulations, ISO Cosmetic GMP) standards, and company quality requirements. The role requires an experienced, technically competent individual capable of ensuring batch consistency, process efficiency, and compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor all mixing and processing equipment in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Accurately prepare and measure raw materials according to approved formulations and batch sheets.
  • Ensure that products are manufactured to specification, maintaining strict control over quality, viscosity, colour, and pH.
  • Conduct and record in-process checks and quality verifications, including scale calibration and sample testing.
  • Maintain high standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) within the production area at all times.
  • Verify that all raw materials used are correctly identified, labelled, and returned to stores after use.
  • Record all batch details, deviations, and downtime in the appropriate documentation and electronic systems.
  • Report non-conformances, equipment malfunctions, or process deviations to the Production Supervisor immediately.
  • Carry out minor adjustments or basic maintenance on mixing and transfer equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the Quality Control and R&D departments to support product trials, new formulations, and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 22716 quality systems, hygiene protocols, and workplace safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant manufacturing environment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong technical understanding of cosmetic formulations and raw materials (e.g., emulsions, surfactants, oils, waxes, fragrances, actives).
  • Proven ability to interpret batch sheets, SOPs, and GMP documentation accurately.
  • Hands-on experience with process parameters such as temperature control, mixing speeds, and homogenization.
  • Sound understanding of ISO standards and quality documentation requirements.
  • Ability to maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Team-oriented with good communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • High personal discipline and accountability.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Matric or equivalent qualification (ABET Level 4 minimum).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in cosmetic, toiletry, or personal care product mixing within a GMP or ISO-certified environment (FMCG experience advantageous).
  • Strong ISO Cosmetic GMP) and ISO 9001 exposure essential.
  • Proven track record of producing consistent, quality batches with minimal rework.
  • Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and safe chemical handling practices.
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and weekends when required.
