SHAFT TEAM LEADER X1 (GRADING B4)

Qualifying Criteria :

  • Grade 10 or equivalent
  • Blasting Certificate / Onsetter or Banksman Certificate (as per shaft requirements).
  • Must have MQA competency B Certificate
  • At least 5 years' experience in shaft operations, with 2+ years in a supervisory/leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of shaft systems, mining legislation, and safety practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically fit with the ability to work in an underground/mining environment.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required and essential
  • Proficient in English and any other of 11 official languages
  • Flexibility is required and essential (able to work on Sundays and public holidays etc.)
  • South African Citizenship
  • Clear Criminal Record

Responsibilities :

  • Supervise and lead the shaft team to achieve daily operational targets.
  • Ensure compliance with mine health and safety legislation, procedures, and standards.
  • Coordinate shaft activities, including conveyance operations, shaft inspections, and maintenance support.
  • Monitor and report on shaft conditions, equipment performance, and workforce productivity.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentoring to the shaft team members.
  • Drive a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with engineers, supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operational flow.
  • Always take instructions from the supervisor(s) responsible for the shift
  • Conduct all work according to required standards and specifications
  • Adhere to MHSA standards & Gold1's safety motto: "Nothing is so important that it cannot be done safely"
