Role Description

This is a full-time role for a Courier driver, located in the City of Johannesburg. The Courier will be responsible for the timely and safe delivery of IT equipment and other materials. Duties include accurately reading delivery instructions, verifying delivery details, maintaining vehicles, and providing excellent customer service during deliveries. This is an on-site role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Package Management:
    Safely and efficiently load, unload, prepare, inspect, and operate a delivery vehicle. Handle parcels with care to prevent damage during transit.
  • Route Optimization:
    Plan, organize, and follow predetermined or optimized daily delivery routes and time schedules using GPS and company-provided technology.
  • On-Time Delivery:
    Consistently meet strict delivery and pickup deadlines, adapting to traffic, weather, and scheduling changes with professionalism.
  • Customer Interaction:
    Provide exceptional, professional, and courteous service to all customers and clients during deliveries and pickups. Answer client questions and address any immediate concerns tactfully.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Maintain accurate daily logs of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance reports. Obtain necessary signatures/proof of delivery for all shipments.
  • Vehicle Care:
    Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the vehicle is clean, operational, and adheres to all safety and maintenance standards. Report any malfunctions or required repairs promptly.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    Adhere strictly to all state and federal transportation laws and regulations (e.g., DOT/local road laws) and company safety protocols.

Payment Handling (If applicable):
Accurately collect payments from customers when required and process documentation accordingly.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Courier Driver/Delivery Driver, or in a similar professional driving role.
  • Valid South African code 10/B
    or Code 14/EB Driver's License
    with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry packages weighing up to
    50 KG
    and perform physical activities like walking, standing, and driving for extended periods.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and route planning skills.
  • Proficiency in using GPS devices, route optimization software, and mobile delivery applications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for clear customer and team interactions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Grade 12/Matric).

Experience

  • Strong Communication and Customer Service skills
  • Experience in traversing the South African roads
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Familiarity with the South African landscapes/geography and traffic patterns.
  • Experience with handheld scanners and electronic proof-of-delivery (ePOD) systems.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for performing simple vehicle checks (e.g., fluid levels, tires).
  • Experience with a range of delivery vehicles (e.g., cargo van, light truck).
