Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer

About the Role

Barloworld Ingrain is seeking a
highly skilled and results-driven Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer
to join the Engineering team at our Kliprivier Mill.

The incumbent will be responsible for
planning, organizing, leading, implementing, and monitoring electro-instrumentation activities
to improve quality, throughput, and process plant efficiencies. This role plays a key part in ensuring that all electrical and instrumentation systems, equipment, and processes operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Process Excellence

• Plan, propose, and organize all electro-instrumentation maintenance, replacements, and projects within the mill's engineering program.
• Implement, monitor, and control the execution of E&I projects to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
• Diagnose and facilitate the resolution of E&I problems, developing effective corrective and preventative maintenance plans.
• Manage compliance to legal requirements of all electrical and instrumentation equipment.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, test reports, and maintenance procedures.
• Ensure compliance with Ingrain's Work Management Principles and Engineering Standards.

2. Financial Stewardship

• Efficiently utilize resources and control project and maintenance costs within approved budgets.
• Contribute to budget planning and cost control processes.
• Ensure sound financial decisions that align with business objectives and cost-optimization targets.

3. People and Leadership

• Supervise and develop a team of Technicians, Electricians, and Apprentices to achieve engineering excellence.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management aligned with Ingrain's talent processes.
• Foster teamwork and professional collaboration across the engineering and production departments.

4. Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure that E&I solutions meet customer needs and business requirements.
• Provide expert technical advice to Mill Management and Production teams.

5. Sustainability and Compliance

• Integrate sustainability considerations—including safety, health, environment, and community impact—into engineering solutions.
• Ensure all systems comply with OHSA, SANS, and other relevant electrical safety regulations.
• Promote continuous improvement and innovation in line with Ingrain's operational excellence philosophy.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications:

• BSc / BEng / BTech in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Light or Heavy Current).
• Registered or eligible for registration as a
  Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng / Pr.Tech.Eng)
  with ECSA will be advantageous.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5
  years' experience
  as a E&I Engineer in a continuous production or manufacturing environment.
• Minimum of
  2 years' supervisory experience
  managing a team of Technicians, Electricians, and Apprentices.
• Proven track record in planning and executing E&I maintenance and projects.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong understanding of
  PLC systems, programming, and design
  .
• Working knowledge of
  electrical installation legislation and safety regulations
  (OHSA, SANS).
• Familiar with
  budgeting, cost control
  , and
  capital expenditure processes
  .
• Knowledge of
  Talent and Performance Management processes
  .
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
