EDF Renewables, established in South Africa in 2011, is a fully integrated Independent Power Producer (IPP) that develops, finances, builds, owns, and operates renewable energy generation facilities across Sub-Saharan Africa. The Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior PV Technician to join our O&M team at the Avondale Hybrid Solar Farm in Upington. The role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation and maintenance of Solar PV, BESS, and Balance of System (BOS) equipment. The Senior PV Technician will perform inspections, oversee third-party contractors, and carry out corrective and preventive maintenance in line with OEM, EDFR, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on PV equipment, BESS, and BOS systems

• Inspect, calibrate, and test substation and electrical components to ensure compliance and functionality

• Perform QA/QC inspections on third-party O&M contractors

• Manage work orders via the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

• Troubleshoot, investigate, and repair electrical faults in PV and substation equipment

• Ensure compliance with ORHVS, NRS standards, and HSE requirements

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and reporting

• Perform LV switching in accordance with ORHVS standards

• Collaborate with engineering teams and subcontractors to resolve technical challenges

What You'll Need
Qualifications & Certifications:

• Trade Tested Electrician (essential)

• ORHVS Certified (essential)

• N6/National Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering (preferred)

• Solar PV Certification (PV Green Card) advantageous

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years' experience as an Electrical Technician in the energy sector (renewables preferred)

• Extensive knowledge of Solar PV, BOS, and BESS equipment

• Experience with substations and HV electrical equipment (advantageous)

• Knowledge of SCADA systems (advantageous)

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong electrical and technical acumen

• Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

• Excellent fault-finding, troubleshooting, and reporting skills

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities

• Willingness to travel regularly in rural areas

• Valid driver's licence
