Platform Engineer Level 2
for our
Cloud Platforms team
in South Africa . Our Cloud Platforms team is made up of highly skilled professionals dedicated to advancing GG's cloud computing capabilities. The team is responsible for leading and facilitating the adoption of cloud technologies and practices across Games Global
Cloud Platforms team is establishing a
Cloud Financial Management
(CFM) function to enhance cost visibility and accountability across all technology platforms.
As a
FinOps Practitioner,
you will be primarily responsible for managing and optimizing technology spend across AWS, Azure, and on-premise data centers as well as reporting on technology spend across the organization, ensuring our technology investments deliver measurable value and support strategic business outcomes.
This is a hands-on role at the intersection of finance, engineering, and operations. The FinOps Practitioner will analyze all technology costs, drive efficiency across hybrid infrastructure, and partner with stakeholders to embed cost awareness and governance throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
What you will be doing?
Cost Visibility & Reporting
- Develop and maintain comprehensive cost visibility across cloud (AWS & Azure) and on-premise data center environments, providing unified reporting of total technology spend.
- Build dashboards and financial reporting packs that present cloud and infrastructure costs by business unit, service, and cost center.
- Partner with Finance to align cloud billing, data center expenditure, and operational technology budgets.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly spend reviews to leadership, including variance, forecasting, and trend analysis.
- Contribute to defining and maintaining a single source of truth for technology cost data, ensuring data integrity across systems.
Optimization & Cost Efficiency
- Identify and implement cost optimization initiatives across cloud and on-prem environments, including rightsizing, asset utilization, licensing efficiency, and decommissioning.
- Analyze and benchmark unit costs (e.g., cost per workload, per user, per transaction) to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and engineering teams to design cost-efficient architectures and optimize resource consumption.
- Track, quantify, and communicate realized savings to leadership and Finance.
Governance & Cost Accountability
- Define and maintain tagging, allocation, and cost attribution frameworks across all technology platforms.
- Partner with Finance and Procurement to align budgeting, forecasting, and chargeback/showback models for both cloud and on-prem environments.
- Establish a regular financial governance cadence, including cost reviews and optimization steering sessions.
- Champion a culture of cost accountability, educating technical teams and leaders on cost ownership and best practices.
Tooling, Data & Automation
- Integrate and manage data sources from AWS Cost & Usage Reports (CUR), Azure Cost Management, and on-prem infrastructure reporting tools (e.g., vCenter, CMDB, asset inventories).
- Support the evolution of cross-platform reporting pipelines, ensuring accurate and timely data for BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker, Tableau).
- Collaborate with engineers to automate tagging enforcement, anomaly detection, and budget alerting.
- Assess and recommend tooling to mature the CFM and Technology Financial Management capability.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
A minimum 2 years of professional experience in AWS and/or Azure billing models, data cost structures, and IT Financial management principles
Ability to translate technical consumption data into clear financial and business insights
Experienced in multi-environment cost reporting (Cloud and on prem)
- Advance Data analysis and Data visualization skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills — able to collaborate across Finance, Infrastructure, Engineering, and Leadership.
- Experience managing chargeback / show back or cost allocation models.
Big plus if you have
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (e.g., Terraform) and tagging automation.
- Understanding of capacity management, licensing models, and hybrid infrastructure optimization.
- Knowledge of financial systems integration
