Introduction

The WDB Trust is a South African non-profit organisation focused on socio-economic empowerment of women in under-resourced communities. The Legal & Compliance Officer will ensure the organisation's legal, regulatory, and contractual compliance; manage legal risks; and support governance, policy development, contract management, and stakeholder coordination.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support across organisational operations.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents.

  • Manage legal disputes, correspondence, and liaison with external legal service providers.

  • Oversee and implement compliance frameworks, risk assessments, and monitoring programmes.

  • Ensure adherence to legislation, regulations, policies, and governance standards.

  • Prepare legal and compliance reports for senior management, committees, and board structures.

  • Facilitate training and awareness on compliance obligations.

  • Support policy development, contract management processes, and governance record-keeping.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Law (LLB or B.Proc) required.

  • 8–10 years' experience in legal, compliance, contract management, or regulatory environments.

  • Experience in developing and managing compliance programmes.

  • Articles completed (advantageous).

  • Membership with Compliance Institute of South Africa or relevant legal body (advantageous).

  • Valid driver's license essential.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.

  • Understanding of South African regulatory and corporate governance frameworks.

  • Ability to interpret legislation and develop compliance solutions.
