Purpose of the Position

The project manager oversees the ArtBankSA project which is hosted at the National Museum in Bloemfontein. ArtbankSA purchases art from contemporary artists, and the art is made available for leasing or sale to government, institutions, companies and private individuals. Visit for more information.

Responsibilities:


• Planning of the Art BankSA creating the annual business plan and budget for the Art Bank of South Africa governance structures and developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.


• Develop and oversee appropriate policy and procedures relevant to the functioning of the Art Bank of South Africa.


• Oversee the compliance and governance requirements of the Art Bank of South Africa, reporting into the governance structures of the Host Institution.


• Establish and maintain financial processes in conjunction with the Museum's Chief Financial Officer


• Ensure resource availability and allocation.


• Lead the curation of the Art Bank of South Africa Contemporary Visual Art Collection for marketing, leasing and/or sales purposes and oversee the collections administration.


• Manage all day-to-day activities as well as relevant human resources aspects of Art Bank of South Africa personnel.


• Responding to all issues that cannot be resolved by the staff.


• Represent the ArtBanksa to all media including radio, press, digital and TV.


• Drive the sales and marketing strategy to increase revenue.


• Networking within the visual arts community.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Qualification:
Appropriate NQF Level 8 (postgraduate qualification) in visual art. A valid (unendorsed) code 8 drivers' licence.

Experience:
Minimum of 5 years proven experience in curation, collections management and Public relations, sales and marketing. Must have minimum 2 years in a supervisory or management role.

Knowledge
and experience of the contemporary art market in South Africa. Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision. Knowledge of project management, business planning, procurement, finances, budgeting and people management. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent presentation skills.

Personal Attitudes
include the ability to work under pressure; good interpersonal relations skills; good written and verbal skills; and willingness to travel.
