Rent2Rent is a property operations business working in the guaranteed-rent / rent-to-rent space.

We are not a traditional estate agency and we do not operate on commission.

We take long-term responsibility for properties, guarantee rent to landlords, and manage risk, maintenance, and outcomes end-to-end.

Our business is built on judgement, operational discipline, and risk management, not transaction volume or hype.

About the Role

We are looking for an Operations Associate to work closely with the founder and help build and operate Rent2Rent in the Greater Durban area.

This is an operator role, not a sales role.

The role is approximately:

  • 50% field-based: property viewings, inspections, condition assessments, dealing with maintenance issues
  • 50% desk-based / remote: coordination, documentation, analysis, reporting, and follow-ups

The role will be tailored to the right candidate, whether junior or more experienced.

Initially, decisions are made with close guidance and approval. We intentionally move slowly and carefully, prioritising sound judgment over speed.

Flexible working hours and partial remote work are supported, provided outcomes are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct property viewings and inspections
  • Assess property condition and identify maintenance or repair issues
  • Liaise with landlords, tenants, estate agents, and contractors professionally
  • Support ongoing property maintenance and repair coordination
  • Assist with tenant vetting and placement processes
  • Maintain clear, accurate records using Google Workspace and Excel
  • Assist with operational reporting and risk assessment
  • Engage with Rent2Rent's website and social media content
  • Demonstrate a practical understanding of how the Rent-to-Rent / guaranteed-rent model works

Property & Maintenance Knowledge

Applicants must have working knowledge of:

  • General property maintenance and repairs
  • Common residential issues (plumbing, electrical, wear-and-tear, preventative maintenance)
  • Identifying problems early before they become costly disputes
  • Communicating effectively with contractors and tradespeople

You do not need to be a tradesperson, but you must understand properties in real, practical terms.

Mentorship & Learning

This role offers direct mentorship from the founder, who has extensive experience in property, risk assessment, and operations.

Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

  • Based in the Greater Durban area
  • Aged 22–35
  • Own, reliable vehicle and willing to attend viewings and inspections
  • Matric / Matric exemption (Mathematics and English passed)
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • isiZulu and/or isiXhosa is a strong advantage
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using:
  • Google Workspace
  • Excel / spreadsheets
  • Decent credit record (will be verified)
  • Stable personal and home environment
  • Sober habits
  • Presentable and professional
  • This role must be your primary focus
  • No side hustles
  • Any outside activities must be fully disclosed
  • Willing to provide multiple references and undergo background checks
