Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of a Desktop Support Technician is to provide hands-on technical support to end users, ensuring that their computers and related technologies function smoothly. They address hardware and software issues, provide user training, maintain security measures, collaborate with other IT teams, and contribute to a positive overall user experience

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of IT experience (networking, systems administration, or related areas).
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • CompTIA Security+
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • Any relevant vendor-specific security certifications

Technical Competency Requirement

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
  • Understanding of networks, TCP/IP, firewalls and IDS/IPS.
  • Understanding of Microsoft.
  • Understanding of threat intelligence and MITRE ATT&CK.
  • Basic scripting (PowerShell, Python) – advantageous.
  • Understanding of vulnerability management tools (Nessus, Qualys).
  • Ability to analyse logs across different systems.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Security Monitoring and Analysis

  • Monitor security dashboards, alerts and logs using SIEM and EDR tools.
  • Triage and analyse security events to identify potential threats and anomalies.
  • Escalate verified incidents to senior analysts or the Security Operations Manager.
  • Track security trends and recurring issues across systems and applications

Vulnerability & Threat Management

  • Assist in running scheduled vulnerability scans using approved tools.
  • Perform basic analysis of scan results and follow up with technical teams.
  • Support patch management through reporting and follow-up.
  • End to end Patch Management

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Security Compliance & Governance
  • Assist with evidence collection for audits and security assessments.
  • Support compliance activities relating to POPIA, ISO 27001, or internal policies.
  • Contribute to policy awareness and cybersecurity training campaigns.

Reporting and Incident Management

  • Support initial incident investigation and evidence collection.
  • Assist in containment, remediation and recovery activities under guidance.
  • Document incidents, actions taken and lessons learned
