Senior BI Developer

Remote Position, South Africa Hire Resolve Full time R800 000 - R1 200 000 per year

We're looking for a Senior BI Developer to join our growing Data Science team. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in business intelligence, data modelling, and analytics engineering, along with the leadership and innovation skills to shape BI best practices and architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End BI Development: Build and maintain BI pipelines, semantic models, OLAP cubes, and Power BI dashboards using Azure Synapse and related tools.
  • Architecture & Governance: Define and enforce BI standards, patterns, and frameworks for scalability and performance.
  • Client Engagement: Translate business requirements into actionable BI insights and deliverables.
  • Innovation: Champion modern BI approaches (e.g., lakehouse, Spark, Delta Lake, Azure Fabric) and drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration: Partner with Data Engineering on data flow design and model optimization.
  • Internal Insights: Develop internal dashboards and reports that support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure BI solutions efficiently handle large and complex datasets.
  • Mentorship: Support and guide junior team members and promote BI excellence within the team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (postgraduate preferred).
  • Experience: 7+ years in BI development with end-to-end project ownership and leadership in BI design and delivery.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Power BI (DAX, modelling, templates, deployment).
  • Strong SQL and experience with Azure Synapse Analytics (SQL pools, stored procedures, performance tuning).
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing, OLAP, and semantic modelling.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT (preferably Synapse Pipelines).
  • Familiarity with Spark, Delta Lake, and modern BI architectures.
  • Version control, modular BI development, and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with other BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik, Looker) is a plus.

Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300 / DA-100)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer (DP-203)
  • Exposure to Azure Fabric, Databricks, or similar platforms is advantageous.
