Lexdan Select is assisting an Advanced Materials Manufacturing Company with their search for a Senior Mechanical Engineer, based in Pretoria.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and draughtsman to deliver high-quality designs within schedule and budget.
  • Receive and manage multiple design requests from project managers, balancing priorities and resources effectively.
  • Assign tasks, review deliverables, and ensure the
    technical accuracy and quality
    of engineering documents.
  • Liaise closely with the
    machine shop, fabricators, construction team, and vendors
    to coordinate design intent, manufacturing, and assembly requirements.
  • Ensure all designs comply with
    technical, legislative, and project-specific requirements
    .
  • Perform hands-on
    mechanical design work
    , including:
  • 3D modelling and 2D manufacturing drawings
  • Bill of Materials (BoM) generation
  • Detailed design for tubing, small piping, compressors, site layout, and equipment design
  • Apply sound engineering principles in accordance with the
    Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER)
    for piping and pressure vessel systems.
  • Apply strong working knowledge of
    machining, welding, tolerances, and assembly
    practices.
  • Utilize
    SolidWorks
    and related design tools to produce accurate and efficient engineering outputs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng).
  • Minimum
    10 years of mechanical design experience
    , preferably within EPCM or industrial project environments.
  • Proven
    leadership and communication skills
    , with experience managing a team of engineers and designers.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in
    SolidWorks
    and related CAD tools.
  • Strong understanding of
    piping and pressure vessel design
    in compliance with
    PER
    .
