Job Summary

Hey there We're ramping up for the
upcoming season
and looking for seriously skilled Fabricator(s)—a genuine artisan who can turn drawings into reality for our film and TV sets. We're also expanding and taking on some exciting
international projects
You'll be the one building the props, scenery, and all the cool physical stuff - We are all the freelance Fabricators ?

Core Responsibilities

  • Construction and Assembly:
  • Read, interpret, and accurately execute construction from scaled drawings, blueprints, and instructions provided by the Team Lead .
  • Construct items using diverse materials (wood, steel, aluminium, composites, foam, plastics etc).
  • Apply advanced techniques including
    carpentry, metal fabrication, sculpting, moulding, and finishing.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Maintain rigorous commitment to
    OHS standards
    on and off set.
  • Ensure all fabricated elements, especially large set pieces and rigs, are structurally sound, safe for performers/crew, and comply with engineering specifications.
  • Problem-Solving & Collaboration:
  • Proactively troubleshoot construction or material challenges under tight deadlines. Adapt rapidly to design changes and perform on-site repairs.
  • Collaborate closely with the Art, Prop, SFX, and Rigging departments to ensure seamless integration.
  • Track inventory, estimate timelines, and communicate progress to the Construction Coordinator.

Required Skills

  • Technical Versatility:
    Proven expertise in
    at least three
    of the following disciplines:
  • Carpentry/joinery.
  • Metal Fabrication
  • Prop Making, Mould-Making, and Casting.
  • Scenic Painting and finishing.
  • Literacy & Tools:
    Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings/specifications and proficiently operate all workshop tools (or at least a fe of them )

Physical Demands

This highly physical role requires the ability to:

  • Lift materials up to 20
    kg
    unassisted.
  • Endure long periods of standing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Work
    irregular hours
    (overtime, nights, early mornings) typical of film production schedules.

Compensation

The contract rate is negotiated based on experience, portfolio strength, and adherence to production budget guidelines.
