Africa's leading specialist in the manufacturing of premium knitted and woven mattress fabric based in Elsies River industrial  is seeking a Cost Accountant Intern to  support the finance team by ensuring accurate daily stock keeping, analysing process constraints, performing margin analysis, and linking costs to their underlying activities. The role offers hands-on experience with cost accounting processes, financial systems, and internal controls while contributing to improved operational efficiency and informed decision-making.



Duties & Responsibilities

Inventory transactions:

  • Processing of new stock codes
  • Process of scrap notes, concessions and global adjustment
  • Resolve stock related queries
  • Maintain an accurate perpetual inventory
  • Revaluation of stock and stock ageing/slow moving reports
  • Work with other departments to conduct and reconcile physical inventory cycle counts and analyze and report variances
  • Monthly variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Monthly interpreting cost of sales and gross profit margins

Labour and Overhead costing:

  • Maintain the line items for direct materials, labour and overheads on the bill of materials
  • Preparing standard cost budgets for manufacturing
  • Calculate, analyses, account for and report monthly cost variances for direct material, direct labour, indirect labour and manufacturing overheads
  • Assist Sales Team with product pricing
  • Update pricelists accordingly

Compliance and legislation:

  • Ensuring that cost accounting transactions align with company policy and IFRS
  • Assist with internal and external audits, specific to inventory and costing


Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma or Degree in accounting, finance or another related field
  • 3 years' experience in an accounting/finance environment
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) with strong administrative and reporting skills
