We're Hiring: Network Engineer / NOC Engineer (Routing, Switching, Security & Monitoring)

Must be a South African citizen or have a valid work permit.

Role Overview

You'll operate within a
Network Operations Center (NOC)
environment, focusing on
core routing & switching, firewall security, proactive monitoring, and escalation support
.

This role is
engineering- and security-focused
— not end-user support or physical cabling. You'll collaborate closely with
SOC and Security teams
, handling advanced troubleshooting and incident response.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations & Engineering

  • Configure, manage, and optimize enterprise routing & switching (Cisco / Huawei)
  • Design and maintain VLANs, trunking, STP, routing, NAT, and VPN architectures
  • Provide
    L2/L3 escalation support
  • Perform root-cause analysis and lead remediation of complex incidents

Network Security & Firewall Management

  • Configure and support firewalls (Fortinet FortiGate, Cisco ASA / FTD)
  • Manage firewall policies, segmentation, NAT, and VPNs
  • Support security incidents in collaboration with SOC teams

Monitoring, Visibility & NOC Tooling

  • Deploy and manage monitoring platforms such as:
  • Zabbix (strongly required)
  • SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios (or similar)
  • Monitor availability, performance, latency, packet loss, and device health
  • Build dashboards, alerts, thresholds, and escalation workflows
  • Proactively identify performance and security anomalies

Security Assessment Exposure

  • Support network security assessments and penetration testing activities
  • Familiarity with tools such as
    Nmap, Nessus, OpenVAS
    , and basic
    Metasploit
  • Assist in remediation of firewall and network security findings

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain diagrams, configurations, standards, and change records
  • Work with international teams, vendors, ISPs, and security stakeholders
  • Participate in change management, maintenance windows, and audits

Required Skills & Experience

Mandatory

  • Strong Routing & Switching experience (Cisco or Huawei)
  • Hands-on firewall experience (Fortinet FortiGate, Cisco ASA / FTD)
  • Solid understanding of VLANs, STP, OSPF, NAT, IPsec / SSL VPNs
  • Monitoring expertise with
    Zabbix
    or equivalent tools
  • Proven troubleshooting in complex, distributed environments

Highly Valued

  • Experience in NOC or NOC/SOC hybrid environments
  • Exposure to vulnerability scanning, security assessments, and incident response
  • Strong understanding of network security best practices and segmentation

Certifications (At Least One Required)

  • Cisco
    CCNA / CCNP
  • Fortinet
    NSE4 or higher
  • Huawei
    HCIA / HCIP
    (Networking or Security)

Nice to Have

  • Zabbix Certification
  • Security or Pentesting fundamentals (Security+, CEH, or equivalent experience)

  • Experience in large, multi-site or service-provider environments is a plus
