The purpose of this role is to monitor regulatory developments, ensure operational adherence to statutory requirements (FIC, POPIA, OHSA, BBBEE etc.), and embed a culture of risk awareness in day-to-day business operations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance:
Monitor and operationalize applicable legislation (including but not limited to the FIC Act, POPIA, PAIA, OHSA, and BBBEE Act) within business processes.
Translate statutory and regulatory requirements into practical guidance and procedures for day-to-day operations.
Act as the point of contact for regulators on matters within the portfolio and ensure timely and accurate responses.
Support business leaders in embedding regulatory requirements into their activities, policies, and procedures.
Advisory:
Provide regulatory guidance and risk assessments to internal stakeholders on regulatory and- risk-related matters.
Draft and review policies and internal procedures related to the business.
FIC & Anti-Money Laundering (AML):
Ensure compliance with FIC obligations, including KYC processes, trade compliance and embargo screening, PEP checks, reporting duties, and staff training.
Develop and update AML policies and procedures.
Occupational Health & Safety (OHS):
Ensure compliance with OHSA by maintaining policies, risk assessments, and training programs.
Act as primary contact for regulators on health and safety matters.
Training & Awareness:
Develop and deliver risk and related training programs across the organization where necessary.
Promote a culture of risk awareness and ethical behaviour.
Audits & Risk Management:
Assist in preparing for and responding to regulatory audits and inspections.
Identify areas of compliance risk and propose mitigation strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
•LLB or equivalent legal qualification.
•Admitted Attorney (essential).
•Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a compliance, legal advisory, or corporate governance role.
•In-depth knowledge of:
- FIC Act and AML regulations
- POPIA / GDPR
- BBBEE legislation
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Corporate compliance frameworks
Skills and Competencies:
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
•Ability to interpret complex legal texts and translate them into practical business guidance.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
