Role Purpose

Responsible for designing, maintaining and governing enterprise-wide data models to ensure consistency, accuracy and accessibility of information across the organization. The role bridges business requirements and technical solutions enabling high quality data architecture to support analytics, reporting and operational systems. The expert will play a key role is defining standards, policies and best practices.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Data Modelling and Architecture

  • Design and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models across multiple business domains.
  • Ensure models align with business objectives, enterprise architecture standards and technology stack requirements.
  • Collaborate with solution architects, data engineers and business analysts to integrate models into applications and data platforms.

Data Governance and Standards

  • Develop and enforce data modelling standards, naming conventions and meta data management practices.
  • Support data governance initiatives to ensure data quality, integrity and compliance.
  • Maintain a repository of enterprise data models and related documentation.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to translate requirements into data structures.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to data analysts, BI developers and other team members on data modelling principles.
  • Participate in cross functional committees for data strategy and governance.

Performance and Optimisation

  • Optimise data models for scalability, performance and maintainability.
  • Identify and resolve data inconsistencies and design inefficiencies.
  • Support ETL, data integration and analytics teams in leveraging enterprise models effectively.

Technology and Tools

  • Utilize data modelling and governance tools such as Microsoft Purview, SQL Server Data Tools, Power BI Dataflows or similar
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, tools and technologies in data modelling and enterprise architecture
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Stack, SQL Server, Azure Data Services, Power BI and related

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or related
  • 5+ Years in Enterprise Data Modelling, Architecture or related role
  • Certifications, CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), TOGAF, Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer
  • Experience with data governance, master data management (MDM) and meta data management
  • Knowledge of data security, compliance and regulatory frameworks (e.g. GDPR, POPIA)
