Position overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer / Product Engineer to join our engineering team, specializing in risk & compliance features for financial services or core banking. This role blends technical engineering prowess in developing secure, auditable systems with a product mindset in creating intuitive compliance tools that mitigate risks and streamline regulatory adherence.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in financial compliance domains (e.g., AML/KYC, transaction monitoring, regulatory reporting, and audit trails) and familiarity with no-code/low-code platforms for agile prototyping and enabling compliance teams.

This is a full-time hybrid position reporting to the Head of Technology. You will partner with cross-functional teams including project specialists, compliance officers, legal experts, business stakeholders, as well as data and security specialists to ensure our platform upholds stringent standards while fostering innovation in compliant digital banking experiences.

Key responsibilities:

·
Architecture and Development
: Design, build, and refine backend and frontend modules for compliance functionalities, such as transaction screening rule development and calibration, sanctions checks (e.g., OFAC, PEP lists), case management workflows, and automated regulatory filings. Prioritize scalability, data integrity, and auditability to handle high-velocity data streams

·
Product Engineering
: Convert regulatory requirements and business needs into actionable features, perform compliance impact assessments, and iterate based on user feedback, simulations, and metrics. Lead full-cycle delivery of compliance products, from requirements gathering to rollout and ongoing optimization.

·
Integrationon and Automatioon
: Develop secure APIs (RESTful/GraphQL) for seamless connections with regtech vendors and internal systems. Automate compliance processes using event-driven scenarios.

·
Risk and Compliance Assurance
: Embed controls for data privacy, consent management, and anomaly detection, including encryption (e.g., FIPS 140-2 compliant) and immutable logging. Conduct threat modelling, vulnerability assessments, and ensure features pass regulatory audits through automated testing and governance frameworks.

·
No-Code/Low-Code Enablement
: Utilize no-code tools to rapidly prototype compliance dashboards, rule builders, or alert systems, speeding up iterations and allowing compliance analysts to configure thresholds or reports without deep coding.

·
Mentorship and Collaboration
: Guide junior team members on best practices for compliant engineering, facilitate code and design reviews, and tackle legacy compliance debt. Engage in agile processes (sprints, retrospectives).

·
Innovation and Oversight
: Investigate advanced tech (e.g., AI for behavioural analytics, blockchain for verifiable audits).

Required qualifactions:

·
Education
: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Key experience:

o  7+ years in software engineering, with at least 4 years dedicated to compliance systems in financial services or core banking.

o  Demonstrated success in engineering distributed, compliant systems for sensitive data, including expertise in event-sourcing for audit trails (e.g., Kafka, Apache Flink).

o  Proficiency in backend technologies like Java (Spring Security), Python (with compliance libs), or Go; bonus for frontend (React/Angular) in building compliance UIs.

o  Hands-on with databases for regulatory needs: SQL (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) for structured logs and NoSQL (Elasticsearch) for search/indexing compliance events.

o  Experience with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) in regulated setups.

Advantageous experience:

· years with no-code/low-code platforms (e.g. NextMatter) to prototype compliance workflows, simulate scenarios, or integrate rules engines—boosting agility and minimizing custom development.

·      Open-source contributions or experience at regtech/fintech firms.

·      Certifications like Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), or cloud-specific (e.g., AWS Certified Security – Specialty).

·      Familiarity with AI/ML for compliance (e.g., scikit-learn for anomaly detection) or distributed ledger tech (e.g., Corda for regulatory reconciliation).

Skills:

o  Mastery of secure, compliant coding, API security (OAuth/JWT), and patterns like circuit breakers for resilient compliance services.

o  In-depth knowledge  of  financial regulations: AML/CTF,  KYC/EDD, data sovereignty, and reporting standards (e.g., MiFID II, CCAR).

o  Proficiency in agile frameworks with tools like Jira or Confluence for tracking compliance epics.

o  Strong analytical skills for root-cause analysis, regulatory mapping, and performance optimization under constraints.

o
Previous product engineering roles involving OKRs, stakeholder alignment, and metrics-driven enhancements (e.g., using Tableau or Looker for compliance dashboards).

Key competencies:

·
Technical Leadership
: Skill in architecting solutions that harmonize innovation with regulatory rigor, optimizing for audit efficiency and risk reduction.

·
Product Mindset
: Empathy for compliance users, with a history of facilitating workshops and road-mapping features to evolve with regulatory changes.
