We are looking to hire a
Group Specialist: Tax Compliance
in our Group Finance Team. This role is based at our office in Illovo, Johannesburg.
Main purpose of the role:
The Group Specialist: Tax Compliance will provide comprehensive support to the Group Manager: Tax on all tax-compliance matters across the Assore Group. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, preparation and submission of provisional, annual income tax, mineral royalty tax and VAT returns, tax registrations, drafting response documents for SARS queries, and ensuring that all tax payments are accurately calculated and made on time.
Main responsibilities:
Assistance to the Group Manager: Tax regarding the following:
- Accurately prepare and file all required tax returns in a timely manner (this includes but is not limited to provisional income tax, annual income tax, mineral royalty tax, VAT and dividends tax);
- Manage tax payment obligations and timely payment of tax liabilities to avoid penalties and interest;
- Ensure that all direct and indirect taxes are filed within the relevant timeframes and that tax compliances are up to date;
- Support teams who are responsible for indirect taxes (including PAYE, SDL, etc.);
- Manage the tax administration on eFiling profiles;
- Assist with the preparation of responses to SARS queries, verifications, and audits; and
- Track changes in tax laws, regulations, and SARS practice notes, advising management of implications and assisting with implementation of tax amendments.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation.
- A postgraduate Diploma / Bachelor Honours Degree in Taxation.
- Registered as a Tax Practitioner with The South African Institute of Tax Practitioners will be advantageous.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a tax compliance role.
- Knowledge and experience in tax compliance and eFiling submissions.
- Knowledge of SARS communication channels.
- Knowledge of mining tax and mineral royalty tax will be advantageous.
Competencies required:
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of South African Income Tax, VAT, and related tax legislation;
- Analytical skills;
- Attention to detail;
- High level of drive and resilience;
- Excellent communication skills (both written & verbal) with the ability to clearly communicate on all levels in the organisation;
- Ability to work in a diverse team and promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration;
- Ability to multi-task and reprioritise tasks as and when required;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with different stakeholders.
