HVAC Technician

Primary Purpose of the Job:
The primary purpose of the HVAC Maintenance Planner is to plan, coordinate, and optimize
preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for HVAC systems—including air-
conditioning units, chillers/freezers, boilers, pumps, compressors, and ventilation equipment. The role
ensures maximum equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and efficient use of resources by
developing maintenance schedules, preparing work orders, coordinating with technicians and
contractors, and maintaining accurate documentation and asset records.
Key Performance Area (KPA's):
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities for HVAC systems such as air-conditioning
units, chillers/freezers, boilers, pumps, and compressors.
• Review diagnostic reports and technician findings to identify recurring issues and develop
corrective maintenance strategies.
• Organize and oversee routine inspections, preventive maintenance tasks, and call-outs to ensure
optimal system performance and energy efficiency.
• Provide technical guidance to technicians, clients, and facility managers on HVAC operations,
maintenance best practices, and system improvements.
• Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance records—including work orders, service histories,
repair logs, and installation documentation—to support billing accuracy and inventory
management.
• Manage spare parts and materials inventory, ensuring availability of required components and
coordinating procurement when necessary.
• Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to plan, assign, track, and
report on maintenance activities.
• Monitor equipment performance trends, identify potential risks, and recommend improvements to
extend equipment life and reduce downtime.
• Coordinate shutdowns, safety permits, risk assessments, and resource allocation for planned
maintenance activities.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and
industry best practices.
Qualifications and Experience
• Diploma or Certificate in HVAC Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration, or related
field.
• Previous hands-on experience working with HVAC systems, including air-conditioning units,
freezers/chillers, and refrigeration systems.
• Strong understanding of refrigeration principles, HVAC system components, and electrical
schematics.
• Experience with preventive maintenance planning and scheduling.
Skills
• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems, along with the ability to
read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
