About The Role/Team

We're on the lookout for a seasoned Data Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team - a team that's shaping the future of how data flows across the organisation. In this role, you'll design and implement robust, scalable data pipelines and solutions within our AWS environment, playing a key role in how data is ingested, transformed, and delivered to power insights and decision-making across the business. 

You'll be joining a high-impact, purpose-driven team at the heart of Client Engagement Delivery, helping to drive personalised, data-led communication across one of South Africa's most trusted banks. 

As part of the Data team, you'll work alongside the Systems & Platform team to ensure the right data is in place to support intelligent, scalable client engagement strategies. This team owns the product line schema that underpins all communications across the bank and plays a crucial role in enabling the Salesforce platform used by the Client Operations team. 

From building the data infrastructure behind millions of client interactions to empowering seamless, client-first journeys - your work will have a real, measurable impact.

What We Are Looking For

Must-Haves: 

• 5+ years in data engineering or a related field.  
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and version control tools (e.g., Git). 
• Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-native data architecture. 
• Proven ability to design and manage data pipelines and data modelling. 
• Ability to work independently and drive initiatives forward. 

Nice-to-Haves: 

• Experience with Salesforce Data Cloud or Salesforce Marketing Cloud. 
• Exposure to vendor data integration and file-based processing. 

What Will You Be Doing

• Designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines in a cloud-native AWS environment. 
• Developing and optimizing stored procedures and data streams. 
• Integrate data from various sources (e.g., APIs, databases, flat files) into data warehouses or data lakes. 
• Mapping and integrating external vendor data into our ecosystem. 
• Contribute to the design and architecture of end-to-end data platforms, ensuring alignment with business needs and tech standards 
• Conducting peer reviews and maintaining version control best practices. 
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams on data architecture, modelling, and ingestion strategies. 
• Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. 
• Ensuring quality, performance, and scalability of data solutions.
