Project Manager: Eastern Cape Intervention

Reporting to the Lead of the Eastern Cape Intervention, the Project Manager will be responsible for developing the Eastern Cape Intervention strategic planning processes, operations management for all Projects, Project Risk Management, Monitoring, Evaluation and Support, People Management, Stakeholder Management and Advocacy.
To succeed in this role, you will need to be a high-capacity project management expert who works well under pressure, plans, and executes systematically and has strong interpersonal and communication skills. You're confident, proactive, self-reliant and performance orientated. You also enjoy maintaining processes, risk management, strategic and operational planning and have experience working in an ever changing and diverse environment. Possessing experience in the education field would be advantageous. Having high level administration and technological acumen in Project Management Framework & Systems, Microsoft Office, Excel, Smartsheet, Slack, Dropbox, or equivalents is critical.
Objectives of RoleStrategic planning, process development and operations managment (EC Intervention)
- Develop and establish frameworks and standards of practice for project management and facilitate adoption/approval by Exco.
- Ensure systems and processes are in place for effective EC programme delivery.
- Coordinating projects and their interdependencies.
- Developing the budget for the Eastern Cape Intervention.
- Monitor, track and review the implementation, spending, issues, outputs and performance against project plans.
- Managing the project administration and operations: logistics, materials distribution, asset management, documentation.
- Ensure efficiency and timeliness of reports and deliverables related to projects.
- Implementation and adherence to internal controls - HR, Finance, Procurement, Travel, IT, etc.
- Formulate monthly and quarterly plans for the effective delivery of the TA project. This will include training plan templates, procedural guideline documentation.
- Change management: adjusting intervention based on outcome of the monitoring and evaluate tool.
Project risk management
- Oversee each stage of the project and Rol-out plan, as well as identifying and mitigating risks to all projects
Monitoring, evaluation and support
- Develop monitoring tools and systems of accountability.
- Measure and analyse the progress of TA project.
- Keep the project on track through comparing actual performance against planned/ scheduled performance and communicating derailments and resolutions with the EC Head.
People Management
- Lead recruitment, appointment, and on-boarding of all staff.
- Oversees full employment application pack for payroll/finance.
- Manage and co-ordinate the project operations team.
- Plan and organise orientation and training activities and workshops for new staff members.
- Ensure all Performance Management processes and procedures are adhered to for all staff.
- Inculcate adherence to the Disciplinary Code of Conduct and all HR policies among team members.
- Provide support to the EC Head in co-ordination of the coaching team.
- Relevant degree in Project Management / Development Studies, Education and/or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience, preferably in Project Management within philanthropy, education or development sector
- Proficient in English, isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans
- Sound knowledge and/or experience in Foundation Phase education and understanding social issues children face and how these can affect learning
- Experience in Project Management and Operations Management in Education field (especially early grade reading & math), Development / NPO / Philanthropy Sector
- A high level of project management expertise
- Considerable experience in budgeting/financial procedures
- Proven ability to provide technical support and guidance to a diverse team
- Experience in monitoring processes and systems in new and rapidly growing organizations
- Stakeholder Engagement Skills
- Communication (written & verbal), Influencing and Highly computer literate in ,IT Skills, Google Suite, MS Office Suite, SLACK, Smartsheet, Dropbox, etc.
- Risk Management Skills
- Good knowledge and understanding of key aspects of development work within the Foundation Phase or education sector in general
- Experience in monitoring processes and systems in new and rapidly growing organizations.
