Job Description

We are partnering with a leading Pan-African Technology & Telecommunications Giant, specifically within their Software Center of Excellence (CoE). This is a massive organization transitioning from a traditional telco to a digital platform business. You will be joining a high-performance environment dedicated to building innovative digital products that serve millions of users across the continent.

This is not just a design role; it is a strategic execution role. You will be responsible for driving the design and user experience strategy for critical software products. The challenge here is to balance high-fidelity creativity with functional pragmatism within a complex, agile environment. You will act as the bridge between business strategy, engineering constraints, and user needs, ensuring that the digital products built are not only aesthetically pleasing but scalable and highly functional.

Performance Objectives for Year One

  • Accelerate Squad Velocity & Outcomes: Within the first 6 months, fully integrate into the agile squad structure to streamline the design-to-development handoff, reducing friction and ensuring 100% of design deliverables meet sprint timelines.
  • Establish & Scale Design Systems: Lead the development and maintenance of comprehensive design systems and component libraries (Figma), ensuring design consistency and efficiency across multiple products by year-end.
  • Drive Data-Driven Design Decisions: Conduct and operationalize ethnographic studies and usability testing for key products, translating user insights into actionable UI improvements that measurably increase customer satisfaction scores.
  • Bridge the "Code-Design" Gap: Demonstrate a strong understanding of Front-End concepts (HTML/CSS) to effectively collaborate with developers, ensuring that implemented designs match the approved prototypes with 95%+ accuracy.

Profile for Success

  • Evidence of Execution: A portfolio demonstrating 5-6+ years of specific UI/UX experience where you have led the design of complex software products from ideation to launch.
  • Technical Fluency: Advanced mastery of Figma (or Sketch/Adobe XD) and a working knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JS) to speak the language of developers.
  • Agile Native: Proven experience working within Agile/Scrum squads, utilizing tools like Jira/Confluence to manage workflows.
  • Strategic Mindset: Experience not just drawing screens, but defining user journeys, personas, and information architecture.
