Accountant – Job Specification
Somerset West / Strand
Job Purpose
To oversee and manage financial operations, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and deliver accurate and timely financial reporting to support effective business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and reports.
• Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts.
• Prepare monthly and ad hoc management reports.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Ensure compliance with VAT regulations and prepare VAT returns.
• Conduct internal audits and strengthen financial controls.
• Prepare and maintain audit files for external auditors.
• Generate ad hoc financial reports as required by management.
Skills and Competencies
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero or similar).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Professional certification (e.g., SAIPA) advantageous.
• Recently completed articles or 4–5 years post-article accounting experience.
• Strong Excel skills.
