Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Legal and Compliance Advisor to join our legal and compliance team. The ideal candidate is an admitted attorney, based in Cape Town, with proven experience in contract law, regulatory compliance, and exposure to blockchain. The role requires regular in-office presence at our Foreshore offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including NDAs, service agreements, partnership agreements and terms and conditions.
  • Provide legal guidance on regulatory and compliance matters, particularly within the fintech and payments space.
  • Support the business in navigating evolving legislation, including FICA, FAIS, FSCA, SARB regulations.
  • Advise internal teams on legal risks, governance, and corporate policies.
  • Liaise with external counsel or external compliance officers when necessary.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing and implementing internal compliance policies and procedures.
  • Assist with performing due diligence on clients and third parties, including transaction monitoring.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving internal legal processes.
  • Stay current with developments in financial, crypto, and commercial law locally and internationally.

Requirements

  • LLB Degree and admitted attorney in South Africa.
  • 2–4 years of post-admission experience in the financial, payments, or crypto space.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Understanding of South African financial regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Must be based in Cape Town and willing to travel to the Foreshore office regularly.
