Civil Engineer (Municipal Infrastructure)

OVERVIEW OF POSITION

The civil engineer will join the municipal infrastructure department, reporting directly to the team leader and head of department. They will form part of a team which is responsible for all stages of the project lifecycle from inception, through design, construction management and close-out. The department specialises in municipal infrastructure, with a wide variety of public and private sector projects involving earthworks and platform design, internal roads, water and sanitation, and stormwater management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Report and provide support to the team leader and department head.
• Coordinate and work with team members from various disciplines in the built environment.
• Conduct civil engineering designs and reporting to meet client needs, company values and local and national standards and requirements.
• Be responsible for aspects of several projects at a time, managing priorities and quality, to meet deadlines and expectations.
• Maintain open and honest communication with team members, leaders, clients, etc. as required.
• Act responsibly and ethically.
• Assist with departmental tasks such as project finance management, tendering, quality control practices, knowledge sharing, etc.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

2-4 years in civil engineering design and management of aspects of municipal infrastructure projects. Experience in the following design software:

• Autodesk Civil 3D
• Devotech iDAS
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

QUALIFICATION

B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Civil Engineering

SKILLS

Civil engineering design exposure to the following:

• Platform earthworks
• Water and sanitation (bulk and reticulation)
• Stormwater management

Proficiency in software such as:

• Autodesk Civil 3D
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The civil engineer will be stationed at the head office, sitting in an open-plan environment alongside their colleagues. Colleagues from various other built environment disciplines also share the space, and regular interaction and coordination is required.

The civil engineer will be expected to travel to site at times as and when required. This may range from a single day trip, to trips spanning several days and nights if required. The civil engineer will be expected to spend time on a variety of greenfield, brownfield and active construction sites (as and when required).
