OUTvest is expanding its actuarial and investment capability. We look after several investment products, including Voluntary, Tax-Free Savings Accounts, Retirement Annuities, Preservation Funds, Linked-Endowments and a Living Annuity (coming soon), and we need someone with actuarial skills to help us develop and maintain our products and system

**How does OUTvest use Actuarial and Investment skills in our business?**

We like to squeeze things together and digitise the investment experience as much as possible for our customers and distribution partners. However, we also want to keep things simple and focus on value.

Actuarial skills are critical to this. We use them to help us understand what is happening in our client's investments, develop client solutions, and improve the redundancy of our actuarial processes and systems. This could include designing an automated system that gives clients and their financial advisors' insights into client behaviour to help them make better financial decisions.

We also use actuarial skills to help us determine how many staff are required to fulfil a particular function of the business or complete regulatory reporting requirements.

**What does an Actuarial and Investment Specialist do every day**

Actuarial and Investment Specialists are responsible for maintaining and developing the actuarial processes that support the OUTvest investment platform. Examples include:

- Gaining insights from our client data to help create better investment solutions
- Maintain and improve the cashflow modelling and investment tracking too. This would include an understanding of our stochastic modelling system
- Maintain and develop the automated advice framework. We are one of South Africa's only automated advice platforms and are responsible for ensuring that our systems provide consistent, good-quality investment recommendations.
- Supporting our MIS process where needed (i.e. calculation, or creation of various metrics related to a wide range of information required by management)
- Work agilely with other teams, like an IT software development team.

You will work closely with the Actuarial Manager in the team, who has a very deep understanding of all the systems and processes and will take over many of the existing functions of this individual

**What previous work experience would you have had to be good at this role?**

We prefer some previous experience analysing and managing data and creating insights from data. We use SQL, and an intermediate understanding would be critical to success.

You have some experience in a role that has a basis in mathematical or statistical processes, for example, an actuarial analyst or analyst. We do not require expertise in investment,

We hope you have at least two years of work experience in a relevant field.

**Qualifications**:

- A relevant financial/IT degree (including actuarial, maths, stats, Comp Sci or related)

**What is the level of this role?**
- This junior to mid-level role will report to the actuarial and investment manager at OUTvest. The role will currently have no direct reports.
