Senior BI Technical Architect

The main purpose of this position is to develop and maintain detailed technical designs and to ensure alignment of implementation and maintenance thereof with respect to all business intelligence (BI) solutions across the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). Detailed Description - Develop detailed, technical domain-specific BI technology and solution standards in adherence to, and in line with, Enterprise Architecture (EA) standards, strategy and product road maps. - Translate business requirements into detailed solution designs and technical specifications, and guide the development of end-to-end BI solutions, ensuring that the implementation adheres to the above-mentioned specifications. - Lead, guide and review various phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to ensure adherence to project-specific solution designs and EA standards. - Ensure technology solutions which are production-ready, meet the defined design specifications, and do not impose risk on the SARB. - Continuously review BI solution architectures and designs, and provide recommendations for improvements to senior management and relevant stakeholders. - Keep abreast of industry best practice and technologies, and lead the implementation thereof to design and optimise effective and efficient data solutions. - Impart knowledge of the technical environment to the product team as well as system developers, database administrators, and the infrastructure and EA teams. - Own, and be accountable for, the delivery of technical BI solution design workstreams while also mentoring and guiding more junior colleagues. Job Requirements - a Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Management, Mathematics or equivalent; - 8‒10 years’ experience in building, maintaining and optimising data and analytics solutions; and - experience in managing technical teams. The following would be an added advantage: - a postgraduate qualification(s) in the relevant field; or - (TOGAF) and (ITILv3) certifications. Additional requirements include: - at least five years’ experience in solutioning, designing and implementing complete BI solutions at an enterprise level; - at least five years’ experience with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI); - experience across BI platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, Informatica; - proficiency in Advanced Interactive Executive (AIX), Oracle and Structured Query Language (SQL), Oracle and - solid experience in translating business requirements into detailed BI designs (conceptual, logical and physical), with a focus on reusability; - experience in the following: Oracle Data Store (ODS), Cube, Data Mart, Data technologies, Data Warehouse as well as Big Data design and frameworks; designing various schemas (e.g. Star, Snowflake or Fact Constellation); MS data technologies such as SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), , SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Transact SQL(T-SQL); database technologies such as IBM Db2, MySQL, MS SQL Server, NoSQL, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, NoSQL etc., with strong knowledge of database fundamentals (normalisation and denormalization); distributed computing frameworks (e.g. Dask, Spark); cloud platforms (e.g. Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, containerisation); analytics libraries (e.g. Matplotlib, NumPy, Pandas); and Master Data Management (MDM), Metadata Management and Data Governance (DG); - practical experience of software engineering concepts and best practice, including Data Operations ( DataOps ), Development and Operations (DevOps); Development, Security and Operations ( DevSecOps ).
