Mental Health Training Officer

**Purpose of the position**:
To support the Technical Program Manager with the implementation of the Mental Health system strengthening program.
**Scope of work**:
- To support desktop reviews and gap analysis of existing policies, guidelines, and SOPs to identify opportunities to strengthen PHC MH activities to ensure provincial and district realities are included in technical assistance provided at a national level.
- To support the development of position papers to inform roundtable discussions at the provincial and district level.
- To identify stakeholders, and support organizations providing mental health-related care at a provincial and district level.
- Manage translation of national-level project policy and strategy outcomes to provincial, district, and PEPFAR district support partner’s (DSP) level.
- To support the creation and provide the secretariat services to district-level consultative forums.
- To implement continuous stakeholders program monitoring and evaluation structures linked to provincial and district level consultative forums.
- To support districts and DSPs to establish MH intervention teams.
- To support capacity development of the public sector and DSP staff on the MH needs and services for PLHIV through providing mentoring linked to training, moderation of online discussion forums liked to capacity development.
- To conduct audits of cascade training by master trainers in PHC facilities.
- To provide technical advice to provincial and district level government and DSP staff on MH service improvement.
- To support stakeholders with the development and implementation of referral and counter referral strategies and implementation plans.
- To support stakeholder efforts to increase retention in care for PLHIV with MH disorders including targeted intervention that prioritizes underperforming facilities.
- To work with DSPs and District Management Teams to ensure deployment of digital health solutions and HCW awareness of self-care solutions.
- To work with M&E managers at all levels to use data analytics to track all aspects of project implementation.
- To implement any additional project related tasks allocated by management
**Essential Qualifications**
- Registered Nurse with Psychiatric Nursing qualification or;
- Clinical Associate with experience in the field of Mental Health.
- SANC / HPCSA registration (essential).
- General management qualification (advantageous).
- Project Management qualification (advantageous).
**Job-related and industry experience required**:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience working within mental health programs within the public, private, and/or civil society health systems within South Africa.
- Experience with U.S. Government assistance funds and knowledge of CDC Rules and Regulations would be an advantage
- Experience in the provision of services to people living with HIV or TB would be an advantage.
**Additional requirements**:
- Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing English is essential.
- Proficiency in another South African language (s) will be an added advantage.
- Valid code 08 driver’s license and own vehicle.
- Willingness to travel extensively.
- Previous experience in capacity development and policy development.
- Fully vaccinated against the Coronavirus.
