Food Specialist

**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**
The Food Specialist is responsible for all food preparation and production in the store, focusing on quality, presentation and the freshness of the ingredients used.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:
**1. Cleaning**
**Back of house**:
Cupboards and shelving
Food prep station and surfaces
Scale and baking utensils
Oven, cooling fan and cooling rack
Oven, salamander, sandwich press, microwave and meat slicer
Fridge/freezer
Food storage containers
**Front of house**:
Display fridge and/or shelves

**2. Maintaining**:
**Back of house**:
Food safety and hygiene
Stock rotation and organisation
Top-up
Food prep
**Front of house**:
Top-up and organising
Food items
Packaging

**3. Conducting and completing**:
**Checklists**:
Opening
Food preparation
Daily/weekly deep clean

**4. Preparing**
**Food items**:
Muffins and pastries
Croissants, panini’s, rolls, wraps and salads

**5. Contributing and monitoring**
**Atmosphere**:
Communicating using the correct company jargon
Customer focused

**6. Sales**
**Food items**:
Detailed product knowledge
Serving and interacting with customers on the food display

**7. Additional**
**Meza duties**:
Assisting Meza on all duties, according to the Meza job description

**REQUIRED SKILLS**:
Grade 12 / Matric qualification

Approximately 1 year food preparation experience in a kitchen environment.

Good command of the English language, both verbal and written.

Able to communicate effectively and interact with colleagues and customers.

Able to work in a fast paced and high-pressured environment.

Good understanding of basic customer service and hospitality principles.

Able to perform independently, as well as excel as part of a team.

Must have a good understanding of food handler’s hygiene, able to implement and follow at all times.
