A leading packaging manufacturer is looking for an experienced Quality Controller in Mobeni, Durban
- Implement and sustain a Daily, Weekly, Monthly reporting framework for on-floor quality and process deviations.
- Ensure Quality Technician are escalating quality and process deviations to the relevant departmental Foremen, Expediters and/or Managers.
- Ensure Departmental Foremen, Expediters and Managers adhere to targets for the resolution of NCRs (2 week turnaround time).
- Proactively identify quality control risks in the factory, and assist in identifying potential areas of improvement, bring forward proactive initiatives in the projects forum.
- Evaluating (with department managers) the effectiveness of quality controls, methods and technologies on an ongoing basis, and improving them as necessary.
- Assist department managers/ Foremen in conduction thorough Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) for product failures, and assist respondents with developing preventative actions where needed. The emphasis must be on prevention and the avoidance of reoccurrences.
- Follow up on the effectiveness of preventative measures implemented through reports.
- Assist Managers to establish and monitor controls that aim to limit defects going to the next production step, i.e.: limit adding value to defective cartons as far as possible.
- Understand customer requirements and product acceptability (commercial acceptable
- critical limits), using technical product specifications wherever possible.
- Assist production personnel in developing procedures, as part of their preventative actions, where needed.
- Work closely with the Compliance Manager and Auditing technician to ensure alignment to existing standards (HACCP, FSSC 22000, ISO 9001).
- Manage production quality inspection records, and provide information on request.
- Ensure all Quality Technican and operators adhere to the digital quality control framework, and assess its effectiveness.

Personal Attributes and Requirements
- Matric
- Relevant Tertiary qualification
- Supervisory experience
- 1-2 years experience being a quality controller in a packaging environment
- A thorough understanding of the quality requirements applicable to food and other packaging.
- Knowledge of defects and quality control parameters in respective processes.
- Knowledge of the inherent production risks associated with each production step, and the downstream consequences.
- A sound knowledge of ISO 9001:2015.
- Critical and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to implement change in a structured and well documented way.
- Ability to see initiatives through to fruition.
- Assertive and able to follow disciplinary route if required.
