Senior Technician

**SUMMARY OF POSITION**

The Senior Assistant Technician is responsible for all cable laying functions, fibre Installations, as well as testing and interpreting test results for installed cables and Fibre.

**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- **Installing Cables**
- Marking, numbering and installing cables
- Skin and prepare cables
- **Cable Routing**
- Investigation of cable routing on site (Reticulation)
- Measuring of cable routes
- **Looming and Lacing**
- Measure, cut and install of cable looms
- Lacing of looms on trays, and in ceiling voids
- Spacing and tension of straps on looms
- Lacing of exposed cable looms on Wall Mount Cable Trays
- Lace and loom in the Cabinet to the Patch Panel
- Even spacing and tensioning of cable ties
- **Skirting and Trunking**
- Measure and cut trunking or skirting with a set square
- Cut and install power skirting, trunking and conduit
- **Other Duties**
- Mount wall mount cabinets securely and level
- Test to Level 1 specification
- Fault finding, trouble-shooting, and repairing of faults
- Installing Fibre Optic Cables, Blown Fibre Tubes and Aerial Fibre
- Numbering and layout of network points
- Ensure the installation site is left clean and tidy
- Safeguard the Company’s property, tools and equipment
- **Terminations**
- Termination of Patch Panels to set specifications
- Terminating to disconnect modules
- Mounting and termination of wall outlets
- **Administration**
- Ensure that Job card is signed by the Client on the date of completion with Client feedback.
- Ensure that timesheets are submitted for each Job
- Ensure that Picking Slips are submitted for each Job
- Provide WhatsApp Updates on site arrival, departure, issues, and project status.
- Complete and submit Vehicle Inspection Sheets
- **Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Responsibilities**
- Report any deviations that could lead to an accident
- Participate in Safety Training to improve safety standards
- Report incidents and accidents before the end of a shift
- Adhere to the Company's Health and Safety policy and procedure
- Look after your own safety and that of other employees
- Ensure that the SHEQ Management System requirements are met towards customer, internal, ISO, regulatory / legal requirements.
- Manage and perform all internal processes, especially those that affect the quality of the Organization's products.
- Work with Customers, Colleagues and Contractors towards continual improvement of the Management system and report the need for improvement to Management.
- Keep up standards and regulations with respect to Products and Services
- **Any other reasonable duties and responsibilities in line with your capabilities and at the request of your Superior**

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Minimum of Grade 11 or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Assistant Technician or 1 year as a Senior Assistant
- Be able to read and interpret building/floor plans
- Must know and fully understand certification specifications when installing cables
- Must have good knowledge of Project Planning and the ability to execute tasks
- Must know how to use a Tone and Probe
- Must understand the common topologies currently used
- Match joints on power skirting and trunking
- Understand test equipment and interpret results on entry level testing
- Understand the correct wiring specifications for the relevant cabling systems
- Understand and use hand tools and fastening materials
- Must have perfect colour vision as plans, wires and cables are colour coded
- Must be able to use both hands as well as have full range of motion in your hands and fingers
- Must be available to travel and work overtime when required
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- A driver’s licence and own vehicle an advantage
