**Editorial Services Lead**

**(Permanent position)**

The Editorial Services Lead plays a central role in managing the Managing Editors to ensure the efficient production of print and digital products. This role guarantees timely, high-quality publications while adhering to budget constraints. The Editorial Services Lead is responsible for training Managing Editors to enhance their skills and ensure process compliance. Working closely with the Publishing Services Manager and Publishers, the Editorial Services Lead oversees their own projects and can also act as a program manager to ensure the effective allocation and completion of multiple projects.

The Editorial Services Lead will report to the Publishing Services Manager. The position is based in Goodwood, Cape Town.

**Principal Accountabilities**:

- Lead a high-functioning team of Managing Editors to deliver high-quality projects within time, scope and budget.
- Ensure Managing Editors have clear and accurate editorial and production process guidelines. Create and maintain up-to-date training materials. Conduct internal and external training sessions as needed.
- Create and maintain a database of freelance suppliers. Identify new freelancers and verify their skills through tests and portfolios. Provide performance-based feedback and regularly update and train freelancers on processes and systems.
- Provide high-level program and project management expertise to Managing Editors.
- Lead as the program manager, overseeing multiple projects managed by Managing Editors. Ensure titles are edited and published on time and within budget. Brief and manage freelancers, ensuring quality through checks.
- The Editorial Services Lead will project manage individual titles based on needs and capacity.
- Liaise with other OUP departments alongside the Publishing Services Manager as needed. Maintain mutually beneficial relationships with external suppliers and internal staff.
- Effectively manage the budget, ensuring costs are within the approved limits.
- Degree level qualification or a degree with relevant equivalent experience.
- 4 years or more relevant working experience as a Managing Editor or Project Manager
- Track record of delivering high-quality projects in educational/academic publishing.
- Experience with a diverse portfolio of products (Schools, Vocational, Higher Education).
- Proven program and project management expertise, with accurate time and resource estimation.
- Ability to think and act quickly, troubleshoot under pressure.
- Strong collaboration and coordination skills with other teams.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Experience in delivering products for submission and tender deadlines.
- Skilled in negotiating service level agreements with freelancers, illustrators, and typesetters.
- Proven ability to hold suppliers accountable for deadlines and quality.
- Effective team management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word and Adobe Acrobat
- Production and design terminology and processes
- Scheduling
- Knowledge of tender and submission processes
