Welder/fabricator

**Key Responsibilities**
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding and fabrication of **structural steel components** on conveyor belt systems.
- Repair and overhaul conveyor structures, frames, trestles, stringers, galleries, walkways, guards and supports.
- Weld using processes such as **GMAW (CO₂/MIG), SMAW (Arc/Stick)** and, where applicable, TIG.
- Install and align structural components during conveyor belt construction or refurbishment projects.
- Read and interpret **structural drawings**, fabrication sketches and welding symbols.
- Fabricate and install chutes, brackets, plates, guards and safety enclosures.
- Assist in shutdown maintenance, conveyor upgrades and steelwork modifications.
- Conduct inspection of welds and ensure conformity to quality standards and SANS codes.
- Adhere to site safety standards, lock-out procedures and permit-to-work systems.
- Work with fitters, riggers, boilermakers, electricians and C&I technicians during project execution.
- Complete job cards, daily reports and QA documentation.

**Minimum Requirements**
- Trade Test Certificate: Welding / Boilermaking / Fabrication.
- **3-5 years experience** in structural welding within mining or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong experience on **conveyor belt structural components**.
- Ability to read structural steel drawings, welding symbols and fabrication details.
- Proficiency in MIG/CO₂, SMAW (Arc) and general steel fabrication.
- Medically fit for mine work.
- Valid driver’s licence.

**Advantageous**
- Experience in conveyor belt installations, refurbishments and plant steel modifications.
- Knowledge of SANS structural steel standards and welding quality requirements.
- Ability to perform basic rigging and alignment tasks.
- Experience with corrosion protection, painting and steel preparation.
