**Overview**:
To assist in the management and implementation of the site sustainability strategy, environmental policy and procedures. To communicate. liaise, share information and good practice with the manufacturing team. Develop, maintain and continuously improve on Environmental systems for the site in line with world class practices and legislative requirements. All activities, roles and responsibilities are aligned to the world class (manufacturing) philosophy, principles and practices.

**Qualifications**:

- Matric (Maths and Science)
- B.Tech (ENvironmental Science) or related field
- B.Sc (Environmental Science) or related field (Advantageous)

**Experience**:

- 5-8 years' experience in Chemical industry

**Duties**:
Design, implement, maintain and improve the Environmental Management System (EMS):

- Design, drive implementation, maintenance and improvement of ISO 14001 management systems
- Ensure adherence to Omnia Management methodology and practices
- Validate and verify that correct specifications, protocols and standards are applied in the implementation of ISO14001 Management System (MS)
- Assist in the development and revision of Environmental related documentation and ensure implementation and compliance thereto across site
- Promote continuous improvement of EMS and processes
- Align EMS with holistic IMS for site
- Provide support and coaching to SHERQ team and customers

Ensuring requirements of WUL, AEL and other legal requirements are met:

- Identify requirements relevant to applicable Environmental legislation relevant to the operations
- Ensure compliance to these requirements
- Ensure non-compliance is escalated to appropriate forums and managed towards compliance
- Ensure inspections are conducted to assess compliance to the AEL and WUL
- Assist the operational teams in solving legal noncompliance's
- Conduct follow up audits to ensure the legal noncompliance's are resolved or escalated for resolution when needed

Conduct Environmental internal audits:

- Planning and scheduling of Environmental audits based on ISO 14001 Standards
- Conduct audits in order to ensure integrity of systems are maintained
- Ensure reports are issued and findings captured in IsoMetrix
- Ensure findings and actions are closed-out appropriately
- Report to Management on status of findings and actions
- Participate and support on verification of corrective actions and systems implementation
- Ensure that legally required external environmental audits are done and results are submitted, distributed and communicated as needed

Conduct investigations:

- Ensure that all environmental events (incidents and non-conformances) are raised and reported
- Be proficient in leading and facilitating investigations
- Ensure quality of investigations by standardising investigation methodology and ensuring root causes and controls are adequate to remediate
- Ensure investigation is captured in IsoMetrix
- Ensure investigation actions are managed
- Make use of other events (incident & NC-learnings) to find opportunities for improvement

Lead Environmental Risks Assessment and review:

- Determine, identify and review environmental risks through suitable risk assessment methodologies
- Determine and review environmental trends
- Assess and review risk ratings
- Determine priorities and actions
- Maintain risk profile on IsoMetrix
- Provide support to line management and SHERQ team on environmental related risk assessments

System Analysis & Reporting:

- Ensure all data is submitted timeously into IsoMetrix
- Conduct trend analysis and maintain operational environmental data
- Ensure data needed for Group Sustainability indicators are submitted timeously as required

Support and communication:

- Ensure communication of environmental requirements within operational meetings as required
- Develop/Update and deliver environmental training and awareness programs
- Ensure environmental topics are developed and shared with plants to improve environmental awareness
- Actively participate in relevant management meetings and initiatives
- Attend all relevant industry forums and communicate requirements to management for action
- Lead and assist in delivering on these requirements

Environmental Improvement, support & monitoring:

- Through analysis of data, create a risk profile of the operations
- Facilitate, review and implement environmental management plans for the site as needed to reduce operational risk and improve efficiency
- Ensure improvement plans are tracked and closed out
- Ensure that the needs for all environmental monitoring have been identified (water sampling, stack sampling, fallout dust sampling etc.)
- Ensure that all sampling is done as per legal requirements by means of sampling schedules
- Ensure that monitoring is captured in relevant system (Isometrix) and submitted to Authorities as required
