The purpose of the role is to perform all tax and VAT functions for all the entities.

**VAT**:
1. Review the monthly tax reports for accuracy, summarise the VAT and complete the VAT returns for various companies
2. Follow up on any correspondence with SARS relating to VAT and attend to the relevant requests
3. Follow up on payments and refunds ensuring the VAT is paid and refunds received timeously
4. Attend to all VAT audits
5. Reconcile the turnover per VAT report to the turnover per the general ledger on a monthly basis

**Company tax**:
1. Calculate the income tax charge for the year for all the companies
2. Complete and / or review income tax returns as well as provisional tax returns for all companies
3. Complete IT14SDs where required
4. Check the assessments and prepare objections, when required
5. Follow up on all tax correspondence and ensure that all correspondence is timeously addressed
6. Complete withholding tax returns for all the companies
7. Ensure that the general ledger reflects the correct tax balances for all VAT and tax accounts and ensure that any differences are resolved, and the correct entries given to accountants to post

**Interim period & year end preparation**:
1. Assist the finance department with any financial functions at midterm and financial year ends that may be required
2. Prepare the necessary information for the accountants to capture the tax entries
3. Attend to Auditor’s questions and queries relating to company tax and VAT during the audit.

**Continuous education and training**:
1. Maintain level of knowledge relating to company tax and VAT and awareness of any changes to the Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act and VAT Act.
2. Ensure that VAT and Tax company policies are maintained up to date
3. Provide tax and VAT training for accountants and the business where required.

**Attend to all taxes and VAT requirements during the year**:
1. Meeting with directors/management where required to discuss company tax issues
2. Assist and guide the finance team with tax queries
3. Registration and deregistration of company tax profiles where required
4. Ensure overall tax compliance.

**Working conditions**:
Office Based. Limited travelling might be required.

**Qualifications & Experience**:
1. BCOM Financial degree with major in Accounting and Taxation required.
2. Completed Articles at an Audit Firm or Accounting Firm (SAICA, SAIPA) required.
3. One or more years post articles experience in taxation and VAT.

**Skills & Knowledge Required**:
1. A good working knowledge of accounting and IFRS as well as IFRS for SME’s will be an advantage
2. Knowledge of company tax and VAT and experience in completing tax and VAT returns
3. MS Office skills:
a. MS Excel - Advanced
b. MS Outlook - Basic
