Construction Superintendent

**Job description**

We are seeking a meticulous and highly organized professional to join our team as a Construction Superintendent overseeing the daily operations of construction projects, ensuring that projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves coordinating subcontractors, managing on-site personnel, enforcing safety protocols, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.

**Key Responsibilities**

1. **Project Oversight**
- Manage day-to-day operations of the construction site.
- Supervise and coordinate all on-site activities, including subcontractors and trades.
- Ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and timelines.

2. **Team Management**
- Lead and motivate on-site personnel and subcontractors.
- Schedule and oversee work assignments.
- Conduct daily briefings and address site concerns promptly.

3. **Safety and Compliance**
- Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure all permits, licenses, and inspections are up to date.

4. **Quality Control**
- Inspect work to ensure it meets quality standards and design specifications.
- Identify and resolve defects or non-conformance issues promptly.

5. **Communication**
- Act as the primary point of contact between the project manager, contractors, and on-site team.
- Provide regular progress updates to stakeholders.
- Resolve conflicts and facilitate effective communication across all parties.

6. **Documentation**
- Maintain detailed records of project progress, site conditions, and changes.
- Prepare and submit daily reports, schedules, and incident logs.
- Ensure all as-built drawings and project documentation are accurate.

7. **Resource Management**
- Monitor and manage project resources, including labour, equipment, and materials.
- Anticipate and address potential delays or resource shortages.
- Approve material deliveries and ensure proper storage on-site.

**Qualifications**

**Education**:

- Matric Certificate or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred.

**Experience**:

- 5+ years of experience in construction, with 3+ years in a supervisory role.
- Proven track record of managing commercial, residential, or industrial construction projects.

**Certifications**:

- OSHA 30-Hour Certification (preferred).
- First Aid/CPR Certification (preferred).

**Skills and Competencies**
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

**Work Environment**
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction site hazards.
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and operating machinery.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Pay: From R20 000,00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Johannesburg, Gauteng: Reliably commute or willing to relocate with an employer-provided relocation package (preferred)
