This job will report to CEO.
**Responsibilities**:
- Manage transportation HSSE programs and activities.
- Operations Manager is responsible for organizing and coordinating operations and procedures in order to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Focal point for all emergencies related to Anax Logistics operations.
- Lead incidents investigations to determine causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Remain current with latest transportation technology systems and procedures.
- Ensure all staff complies with all transport policies, legislation and procedures.
- Attend driver safety meetings, tool box talk and quarterly HSSE committee meetings.
- Manage all feedbacks and queries from suppliers and customers.
- Ensure all staff training meets with company and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the review of Route Risk Assessments, journey plans and rest stops annually.
- Ensure service providers comply with contractual obligations which includes Tank Clinic, Scania, Mercedes Benz, UD Truck, Mix Telematics, DriveRisk, Pro Tyres and Trentyre.
- Manage the depot contract with the landlord and ensure that the depot complies with both legislative and company requirements.
- Ensure operational procedures and practices are well defined, documented and consistently applied.
- Instil a high performance culture in the team with a focus on team work, service excellence and ownership for resolving customer issues.
- Manage, identify and implement change within the team to ensure it can take on new service offerings.
- Manage and maintain the operation of a computerized system for tracking vehicle and equipment, maintenance parts inventory, fuel, utilization, billing and tracking total cost of individual fleet within Company.
- Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Works closely with other Managers to coordinate systems and share policy information;
- Achieves the company objectives by anticipating requirements; submitting information for budget preparation; scheduling expenditures; monitoring costs;
- Completes special projects by organizing and coordinating information and requirements; planning, arranging, and meeting schedules; monitoring results.
- Manages all equipment inventory and orchestrates/organise unit equipment and supply purchases.
- Discover the most profitable suppliers and initiate business partnerships.
- Negotiate with external vendors to secure the most advantageous terms.
- Approve the ordering of necessary goods and services related to operations.
- Finalize details of orders and deliveries.
- Examine and re-evaluate existing contracts. Work closely with HSSE Manager to ensure that all contracts comply with Anax Logistics safety, standards and policies.
- Ensure that supplier audits are carried out to meet with contractual obligations.
- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
- Anticipate unfavourable events through analysis of data and prepare control strategies
- Control spend and build a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs.
- Provide monthly feedback to senior management on all operational KPI’s.
- Focal point to ensure that Anax Logistics complies with all customer requirements including our contractual obligations with customers.
- Manage the Depot activities, Administration and Finance functions for Gauteng operation.
**Major Challenges**:
- Manage and communicate with customers, service providers and employees.
- Managing transport movements within Southern Africa.
- Ensuring that all BVO’s comply with company requirements in a very challenging environments (high risk South African environment and long distances of travel).
- Managing on a daily basis the Procurement to ensure mínimal disruptions to Company operations.
- Manage a number of projects at one time, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of customers and contractors.
- The Operations Manager may find the environment to be busy, noisy and will need excellent organizational and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.
- Hours may vary and may require evening and weekend work depending on business needs.
**COMPETENCIES**:
- Degree in Business Management,
- Degree or Diploma Transport Management or related field.
- Have exceptional time management, administrative, communication, problem solving and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and follow through on tasks to timely completion.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
