**Purpose**: **Responsibilities**: **Logistics Management** - Pre-classify products for import to ensure correctness. - Structure products to save on duties or Ad valorem to gain competitive advantage. - Document control as per Customs Act to allow for ease of Auditing by SARS. - Manage logistics service providers (LSP) i.e. Agents and transporters performance. - Manage the importing of goods affectively to meet deadlines. - Continually optimize operations within the department i.e. collections, costings. - Review using CROSS to see if products are correctly tariffed. - Cross departmental communication regarding status of shipments. - Benchmark internal performance against competitors. - Drive inbound logistics efficiencies. - Attend to Customs stops, liaise with NRCS or ICASA to expedite the release. ***Leadership** - Plan, select, develop and maintain suitable manpower capabilities in the department. - Develop a high-performance team. - Identify and timeously address functional related problems and opportunities. - Build and maintain constructive relationships with stakeholders. - Provide technical direction. ***Expense Management** - Manage demurrage as well as airline storage (cost conscious). - Manage embargoes to ensure zero penalties Continuous monitoring of transport / logistics costs. - Expense budget - Actual vs budgeted expenses, < = 2% expenditure over budget, to be evaluated bi-annually. ***Staff Management** - Performance Management - Conduct performance assessments on subordinates. - Tasks and Responsibilities - Ensure all in department have up to date job descriptions. - Skills - Ensure staff are skilled to carry out what is expected of them, recommend training, coach, develop. **Qualification and Experience**: - Matric - National diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Relations or Trade - 5 - 8 years in Middle Management (High-Tech, Automotive or Freight Forwarding) involving Customs Affairs, Import or Export Management, Forwarding management **Knowledge and Skills**: - Legislations such as Customs Act, OHSACT - INCOTERMS - Customs Trilogy (Valuation, Origin & Classification) - Various Customs Rebates, refund and drawback provisions, NRCS Safety & Energy requirements, ICASA requirements, Guidelines on Transfer pricing between related parties, Import or Export procedures - Product classification and customs rate of duty - Flight Schedules) - Tariffs, Valuation, Origin & Transfer pricing guides and CROSS Customs - Published American Customs Rulings & the methods applied therein - Import Permits - Customs Clearing Instructions, Customs Tariff Determinations, Customs Valuations, Customs Release Letters, Customs docs for SARS Audit, Insurance Claims, Shipping Orders, Embargo release motivations to Customs - Problem solving/analytic skills - Administration skills (e.g., Microsoft Office) - Strategy development skills - Verbal and written communication skills - People and customer management skills - Conflict management skills - Networking skills - Communication skills - Evaluative skills - Customer relations skills - Numerical skills - Information processing skills - Relationship building skills - Influencing/persuasion skills - Negotiation skills - Management skills (managing people) - Delegation skills - Good presentation/public speaking - Creative skills/idea generation skills
