An opportunity has come about in AEM Project Controls for a Junior Planner to join a dynamic project delivery team. The successful person will be assigned to the Planning Team forming part of Project Controls within the Greenstone, Johannesburg office. The individual will be assigned to support the project planning and scheduling function on projects, from conceptual studies through to project implementation.

The respective person will be required to grow their current knowledge base to further grow the below skills:

- Development of project schedules for smaller and medium size projects through the range of Hatch classifications (FEL 1, 2, 3 and 4)
- Conformance to the Project Lifecycle Process, Global and Regional Planning and Scheduling Guidelines
- Gaining understanding how schedules are developed, through questioning the scope of work, deliverables, schedule of execution and how resource loading is undertaken
- To be familiar and able to develop the basis of schedule and plans
- Be familiar with the duties and responsibilities of a Planner and how this function aligns to the other attributes within project management, engineering and procurement environments
- Understanding of schedule levels and how to develop them over the project life cycle
- Analysis of the critical path
- Basic understanding of earned value measurement and reporting metrics
- Develop sound understanding of schedule analysis and benchmarking
- Drive integration of the planning function with the various functional disciplines - deliverables with associated man-hour estimates, e.g., technical and non-technical
- Embrace understanding and grow full understanding of the technical workflows over the project life-cycle

Together with the Project Manager and Lead Planner, with close alignment with project disciplines:

- Development and updating of project schedules from smaller to large scale projects through the range of Hatch classifications (FEL 1, 2, 3 and 4)
- Development of schedule management plans
- Maintain and optimise schedule, monitoring progress
- Highlight and resolve schedule issues
- Generate all progress curves
- Develop and maintain commodity and resource profiles
- Extract and publish detailed working schedules
- Extract and publish 4-week look ahead schedule
- Monitor slippages and critical and near critical paths and discuss with Lead Planner for resolution

**Skills**:

- Basic knowledgeable of project management
- Technically orientated
- Analytically astute
- Basic understanding of planning and scheduling attributes
- Strong MS Office skills
- Strong personality and attitude, self
- starter
- Able to communicate clearly, both written and oral within project teams
- Preferably have some planning, experience and or understanding of project environments, e.g. EPCM, Construction
- Have a passion and attitude linked to learning and acquiring in-depth knowledge of Planning

**Qualifications**:

- Matric certificate with university exemption
- A suitable tertiary qualification in engineering and or construction would be an advantage
