**Job Purpose**:
To manage the Branch responsible for planning, recommending policies and strategies which will
ensure the cost effective delivery of service offered to the customer by the eThekwini Water and
Sanitation Unit in a rapidly changing environment in terms of the Unit’s policies and the City’s
Integrated Development Plan.

**Key Responsibility Areas**:
Accepts full responsibility as part of the departmental management team for providing a more
effective customer service.
Manages the staff of the branch.
Manages the technical operations of the branch.
Manages the preparation of strategic planning initiatives of the department.
Control contractual and professional appointments commissioned and ensure the sound
financial management of the branch.
Establishes,develops and maintains the necessary communication channels and relationships.
Explore and identify new business opportunities and the expansion of service provision into
areas outside of metro.
Consider environment impacts that the operations of the department may have.
Deputises for the Director.
Undertakes related assignments.

**Essential Requirements**:
Registered as a Professional Engineer with a relevant University qualification in Civil
Engineering
Valid motor vehicle drivers license (Code B).
6 years relevant experience in a civil engineering environment.

**Preferred Requirements**:
Relevant post graduate qualification.
8 years relevant experience related to the strategic planning of complex systems and
preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments.
