Duties/Pligte
- Providing input to the vision and innovation for the development of programmes and services within the PACER programme;
- Overseeing academic progress of all HP student-athletes toward graduation, including maintaining academic reports, records and data necessary to comply with the University, the University¿s sport competition rules and regulations;
- Developing and monitoring the student-athlete graduation database;
- Working closely with the Registrar's office and Faculty staff to support the Maties Sport Recruitment and Retention Plan to ensure continuing eligibility of student-athletes;
- Facilitating and conducting educational training and workshops for staff, coaches, and student-athletes;
- Participating in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, including facilitating meetings with prospective student-athletes, partners and others as needed;
- Developing and fostering positive interaction between the Faculty and the University's academic departments;
- Advising and counselling student-athletes regarding academic expectations and performance, including adherence to the Sport Leave of Absence Regulation;
- Directing new initiatives and programmes for student-athletes to assist with maintaining eligibility and achieving academic success;
- Acquiring extensive knowledge of academic regulations to advise student-athletes and inform and train Maties Sport staff;
- Directing the coordination and integration of academic support services with the Centre for Student Counselling and Development on campus;
- Consulting with the Faculties to determine student progress and the need for academic assistance;
- Regularly meeting with student-athletes and coaches to monitor academic progress and to provide counselling and advice;
- Preparing statistical reports and graduation reports to assist with required report submissions, including about those student-athletes who have been flagged and who might require assistance with re-admission;
- Assessing student learning, study skills and career development;
- Providing decision-making support and appropriate references;
- Attending / participating in advising/academic department programmes and meetings essential to understanding the University's curriculum;
- Working in full compliance with University Sport South Africa, Varsity Cup, Varsity Sports, and national sport federations rules, and acknowledging this compliance as part of an annual evaluation process;
- Working with Maties Sport Managers, Head Coaches and Faculty staff for reporting and programme development purposes;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

- o The University's admission and retention standards;
- o The University's academic eligibility regulations for sport related competitions;
- o Academic support programmes, preferably with high performance sport and at-risk student-athletes;
- o The University's strategies to assist teams in meeting minimum scores;
- o The academic advisement process;
- o Effective records and data management.

The ability to:

- o Communicate effectively with students, Faculties, coaches, administrators, and staff;
- o Communicate to groups in a workshop/seminar/non-classroom setting;
- o Direct the overall programme for academic enhancement for student-athletes, including policy and procedures;
- o Supervise individuals and groups;
- o Conduct research and analyse/interpret data;
- o Coordinate and plan events;
- o Challenge, motivate and influence others;
- o Run statistical reports an analyse data and present reports;
- o Lead training workshops.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- Qualification in Psychology / Education / Social Work / Sport Science (NQF7);
- Experience as a student-athlete or work in a high-performance programme is desirable;
- Three years' work experience with high performance student-athletes;
- Familiarity with university sport-related competitions' academic progress requirements.
