Indirect Tax Specialist

Prepare and submit VAT, GST, and other indirect tax returns across various jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy and timely submission in accordance with local indirect tax regulations.
- Ensure that proper documentation is maintained for all indirect tax filings and payments, keeping accurate and up-to-date records to support audits and reviews.
- Ensure that the Group adheres to all indirect tax compliance obligations and deadlines, maintaining strong internal controls to mitigate tax risks.
- Assist with the preparation of documents and information required for indirect tax audits and verifications, working closely with auditors and tax authorities to resolve any issues.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of efficient indirect tax processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.
- Collaborate with the Group Indirect Tax Manager to manage and mitigate indirect tax risks, ensuring that any compliance issues are addressed proactively.
- Monitor developments in indirect tax laws and regulations that may impact the Group, ensuring that the Group adapts its compliance processes as needed.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, tax authorities, and advisors on matters related to indirect tax compliance and reporting.
- Assist in dealing with the auditors in all countries regarding indirect tax matters for year-end purposes.
- Provide tax training to relevant internal teams (e.g. AP and AR in finance) to address identified knowledge gaps.
- Contributing to the successful delivery of tax solutions for the Group.
- Supports finance, and other business areas with information and advice regarding all tax matters, redirecting or escalating requests.
- Support the development and improvement of processes to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of tax compliance, including working on automation initiatives for tax reporting.
- Support the Group Tax agenda to drive tax process efficiency and simplification in coordination with Group Tax, and local tax advisors.
**Qualifications & Experience**:
- Matric / Grade 12
- BCom (Accounting), BCom (Tax or Accounting Honours)
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Tax
- Professional accounting or tax accreditation (e.g., GTP (SA), CA(SA), CTA) is preferred
- Technically strong with solid knowledge in indirect tax regulations and compliance requirements and experience in SA, Rest of Africa, and International.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (Essential)
- Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in an Indirect Tax Accountant role
- Experience with tax reporting systems and tools (SAP) is preferred
- Previous working experience in the international market would be advantageous
- Ability to drive changes effectively at different levels throughout the organization.
- Demonstrates high integrity and the flexibility needed to work effectively in a matrix organization.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex tax issues and propose solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues across different functions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
