Construction Manager

Our client currently has an opportunity for a Construction Manager to be responsible for managing construction aspects of the project in respect of quality, program cost and contract.

The successful incumbent will hold a relevant Construction/Technical Qualification and a Construction Management Qualification NQF Level 5 together with 8-10 years of Construction Management experience in heavy industrial environment, preferably in the construction and mining industry.

**Position details**:
Reports to: Direct Manager - Project Manager.

Job titles of direct reports: All project managers, management in projects, project teams within the program.
Key external relationships: All external interfaces / stakeholders, external organizations, government, professional bodies / institutions, external service providers, contractors or consultants, public / communities.

Travel requirements: Requires transport. Travel to site. Core hours, on site work, office, and site base mix. Office and construction on site environment, stay away from home for periods of time.

Management
Provide leadership to enable the organization and related clients to achieve ZERO HARM performance.
Implement Construction Scope according to approved project budget and quality and client project management guidelines and investment development method to ensure successful project execution.
Manage SHE aspects on site for the project.
Ensure compliance with mine, health and safety act, OSH Act, and other relevant legislation.
Accept legal appointment and conduct the function therein specified.
Manage all construction activities on site.
Provide inputs to the development of the project management plan and contribute to the development of the project execution schedule, tie-ins, and shutdowns
Contribute to the quantitative risk assessments.
Assist of the verification of the scope and specifications available.
Incorporate previous lessons learned.
Coordination between all contractors and consultants on site.
Ensure compliance to project specifications, policies, and procedures.
Ensure adherence to project controls on schedule optimization, performance, and quality control.
First line approval of completed work in accordance with engineering specifications.
Issuing of site instructions in terms of delegated authority.
Manage IR, site related issues and security.
Manage and develop staff.
Assist in appointing the owners team.
Assist in the on-site management of construction site, ensure coordination between client, project, and contractor teams.
Assists in execution team training and on-boarding efforts.
Contribute to the development of the project setup back.
Accountable for all maintenance field activities associated with the turnaround and related capital projects.
Effectively communicates up, down, and across to foster support and remove obstacles.
Report site progress to the Project Manager.
Assist with site inspections meetings.
Conduct quality inspections, manage daily site diaries from contractors.
Manage site variations request and site instructions.
Manage issues during the construction phase.
Monitor and control risks.
Manage incidents during construction phases.
Manage decisions during construction phases.
Manage human capital during construction phases.
Manage contract during construction phases.
Oversee the review and approval of engineering drawings.
Oversee engineering QA/QC quality assurance for fabrication and construction.
Attend project technical meetings.
Attend feedback meeting with project managers, safety officers and project engineers.
Conduct progress meetings with contractors.
Conduct pre-commissioning meetings.
Conduct cold commissioning and testing.

Hand Over and closed out

Arrange Hot commissioning with the Client.
Assist with Hot Commissioning.
Ensure that red line drawing with all changes to the plant are recorded.
Ensure the as-build drawings, data books, operation manuals, and other documents are handed over to the client
Arrange and conduct hand-over meeting with the Client.
Hand-over the official hand-over certificate.
Oversee the issuing of the official handover certificate.
Hand-over critical spares to operations.
Hand-over the final hand-over certificate.

Safety, Health & Environment
Attend daily toolbox talks on site.
Ensure that site teams conduct Risk Assessments for construction activities.
Ensure adherence to site specific Safety, Health Environment (SHE) Requirements.
Conduct Safety Meetings with the Safety Officers to ensure compliance.
Ensure that the Project is compliant within the legal framework established in the Mines Health and Safety Act.

Governance
Manage project delivery according to Project Management Office policies, procedures, and systems.
Manage project audits with regards to policies, procedures, and systems.
Ensure that the project is compliant within the legal framework established.
Ensure compliance in terms of Framework regarding contractual issues.
Manage customer and client relations
