Fleet and Driver Logistics Supervisor

**Overall Purpose of the Position**:
The Fleet and driver logistics supervisor is responsible for assisting with the overall effective management of the fleet of vehicles; leading a team of drivers to transport persons and goods including human biological samples, efficiently. The duties for this position include creating work schedules and transportation routes to the correct location, managing vehicle maintenance and repairs and budget forecasting and management, ensuring drivers receive and maintain relevant training to uphold safe driving standards.
In addition, this position may be required to assist with driving tasks when necessary and will perform various organizational and management tasks to monitor, maintain and improve a company’s transportation processes.
**Key Performance Areas (KPAs) & Responsibilities include, but not limited to**:
- Assisting with the management of the fleet of vehicles including the process of purchasing vehicles to expand and/or enhance the fleet
- Scheduling regular maintenance on all vehicles and ordering urgent or emergency repairs as needed.
- Conducting regular safety inspections of vehicles to ensure that they are in good working order.
- Managing vehicle licensure and registration
- Establishing efficient, safe routes and transportation schedules
- Overseeing drivers and coordinating their schedules, working closely with the sites to assess needs and working out daily routes. Assigning routes to drivers based on traffic patterns, customer needs, and other relevant factors
- Responding quickly to changes in order to reroute or reschedule drivers to maximize transportation schedules and supporting company operations
- Communicating and ensuring that drivers have accurate information about their routes and pick-ups.
- Maintaining constant, effective communication on schedules and changes with relevant teams and escalating concerns in a timely manner
- Ensuring all drivers have proper licensure and up to date training. Training new employees on safety procedures and company policies and traffic laws
- Monitoring drivers to ensure adherence to schedules and proper driving practices and arranging or taking relevant remedial / corrective action when necessary
- Managing fines on vehicles and liaising with HR regarding the repayment thereof.
- Maintaining awareness of safety standards for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians with teams including but not limited to managing and maintaining anti-hijacking measures and staying up to date with trends and risks
- Staying up to date with relevant legislation/ regulations/ guidelines to ensure compliancy of team of drivers as well as roadworthy and safe vehicles
- Providing reports to management on expenses, budgeting, schedules, maintenance, and fleet progress and related matters.
- Reviewing safety reports/risk reports to identify opportunities for improvement, remain informed on crime and hijacking hotspots and communicate and adjust strategies and routes accordingly
- Developing methods to be economical, environmentally friendly and supporting and promoting operational efficiency across the fleet
- Developing, maintaining and implementing policies and procedures for the effective supervision / management of relevant areas of responsibility
- Ensuring that company policies are followed regarding vehicle maintenance, accident prevention, fuel efficiency, and other driving practices
- Establishing procedures for employee performance evaluations
- Incident reporting - accidents and other incidents e.g. hijacking and coordinating various activities as may be required
- Acting as a driver when necessary
**Ideal Requirements**
- Relevant training and/or certifications as a fleet supervisor and manager, fleet maintenance and logistics (preferred)
- Previous relevant experience working in or with a fleet, preferably within the same industry, experience in the transportation industry with demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Experience in logistics in fleet operations would (preferred)
- Understanding of basic vehicle mechanics, including the ability to identify when major repairs are needed
- Familiarity with transportation scheduling and management software (advantageous)
- Expert knowledge of best driving, delivery, vehicle maintenance and other industry practices
- Ability to set and monitor a budget
- Great administrative skills and ability to keep records current
- High level of computer literacy
- Valid South African driver’s license (manual transmission) and experienced driver
