Warehouse and Logistics Manager

Large FMCG Retailer in Home Improvement is looking for a qualified and experienced Warehouse Manager to run Logistics in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town.

Manage receipt of containers, logistics as well as the most efficient layout of the warehouse.

Review current Warehouse Policies and Procedures and recommended improvements and best practises for warehousing.

Overall responsibility for all aspects of the effective supervision, training, health and safety of the Warehouse team including outsourced labour.

Receiving stock
- Obtain details of expected arrivals from shipping and plan the required receiving process.
- Oversee the intake of stock when containers arrive at Cape Town
- Plan the allocation of space in the warehouse for expected shipments.
- Approve breakages received from Customers and Suppliers
- Review count discrepancies for shipments received
- Packing / picking of stock
- Plan yard and warehousing areas in advance of receipt of stock, ensuring there will be sufficient space to offload stock in the correct manner
- Ensure pallets are packed such that all stock from one supplier is grouped together as well as grades and colours.
- Plan all areas of the warehouses to ensure stock is correctly packed and labelled.
- Manage the picking process to ensure accuracy.

- Stock Control
- Facilitate the process of cycle counting of stock using Kerridge.
- Investigate and approve variances as required.
- Review Kerridge exception reports and report discrepancies to Senior Management
- Manage the bi-annual stock counts
- Analysis of physical stock in regards to the following:

- Slow movers
- Obsolete stock
- Housekeeping
- Ensure the hygiene and tidiness of all areas of the warehouses and yards.
- Ensure stock packed outside is protected and kept dry.
- All breakages to be processed and disposed as per procedures
- Manage employees
- Manage administration, forklift drivers and warehouse assistants in terms of the following:

- Daily task lists
- Timekeeping and attendance
- Leave
- Uniforms and cleanliness
- Performance levels
- Conduct weekly employees meetings
- Conduct training or arrange training for employees as and when required
- Liaise with Labour Broker as required
- Forklift Management system
- Monitor reports, attend monthly meetings and take necessary action
- Ensure forklift are in good working order at all times
- Fleet Management
- Monitor usage and manage services and repairs
- System and process documentation
- Document all warehouse systems and processes and update as necessary
- Provide necessary training and sign off from relevant employees
- General
- Ensure that all aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Act are adhered to in terms of fire equipment, PPE, stacking and general safety in the warehouse and yard
- Daily opening and closing
- Attend to customer complaints
- Ensure Customer Service is maintained at the highest possible level.
- Manage costs and usage of warehouse consumables.
- Perform any other reasonable duties that are within your capabilities when requested by Senior management.

Minimum Grade 12 and a 3 year tertiary or similar relevant qualification

5 - 10 years Warehouse working experience in the FMCG / Wholesale industry with at least 5 years’ experience at a Management level

Working knowledge of inventory management ERP software - Kerridge knowledge and experience advantageous.
- Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity and the ability to manage and motivate employees
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
- Above average MS Office skills
- Ability to work under pressure and according to tight deadlines.
- Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
- Excellent time-keeping, work ethic and attendance record
- Willing to work extended trading times, weekends and public holidays
